Claiming back cost of air flight from credit card provider

Options
Hi there - Would anyone know whether I could claim an air flight delay from my credit card.

I was delayed last Friday at Gatwick due to fog and was six hours late arriving at my destination. As the delay was due to weather I understand I cannot claim it from the carrier or my travel insurance. The all-in flight cost including taxes, baggage fee was £111.

Thanks.

No, not if the carrier has no responsibility.

You took the flight so obviously you cannot claim back the cost. Under EU regulations you had the option to abandon your trip in which case the airline would have had to offer a refund of your unused ticket.

The CC is equally liable for a breach of contract with the provider. If the provider isn't liable neither is the CC so no, there is nothing you can claim for.

Are you not insured against this?

Thank you all for your replies.

I don't believe I am insured against delays through weather. I will go back and check though.

The posts on this website get stranger by the day.

The OP seems to want a refund for a flight they took - not even compensation for the delay or cost of an alternative flight.

I'm quite happy with the idea of a refund.

But you had the flight; it wasn't cancelled.

Any claim you might be able to argue would, or should, be based on your losses, for instance perhaps a hotel room at the flight destination because all the trains had finished.

However, this is subject to the terms and conditions of either the flight provider or your travel insurance, if applicable, and as people said above they may not be liable.

I took an easyJet flight from Schoenefeld to Luton a few years ago. A family member looked up the train times from Luton to London, but by the time I got there it was too late. I asked a taxi driver to either recommend a local hotel or could he get me to Waterloo by 1 am.

Although the taxi cost me £70 (£63 plus a tip), this isn't the extent of my loss, as I would anyway have to have bought the rail fare.

I didn't even bother to look into whether I might have a claim, or how to do it. I assumed it was just tough luck.

You'd pretty much acknowledged that your airline wasn't liable for bad weather.
What makes you think that your card issuer would have more liability?
