Car Hire Admin Charge for Dart Charge Late Payment

Hi there
I've been charged 48 pounds by a car hire company as an admin fee for not paying my Dart Charge on time. The Dart Charge is of course just 2.50.
I did in fact make payment three days late; Dart Charge took three payments from my card and then refunded them all, effectively meaning that I still owed them money.
I've explained the circumstances to the car hire company on two occasions and asked them to waive the charge but they've refused.
Is there any legal fall back as the admin fee is in no way proportionate to the fine and also seems huge in itself?
Any help much appreciated.

Check your hire agreement - it will probably state that fines or charges will be billed to the hirer, assuming you signed this, then the time to object on whether such a charge was proportionate or not has gone. If it doesn't, then you can tell them to swivel....
The foul up with the Dart charge folk is a separate issue - if you've not paid anything, you may get away with it due to their refund process,0 -
