Can I switch broadband companies if present account is not in my name?

Suspect I am monumentally thick and its obvious either one way or the other, but...
The phone & broadband contract (which I pay for) expires soon, and I want to switch to a better one with another company. However the contract being used presently is not in my name. Am I able to make the switch myself, thus keeping my current landline number, or will I run into difficulties because of the billing account names not matching?
Thanks for any advice.

If you register as a new occupier,' then you'll lose the existing number, unless they say otherwise. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

That's what I'm afraid will happen, though if it does it does, I suppose. Account holder needs to be changed when contract is up, either way. Annoying, cause I've got elderly relatives who won't use the mobile, and its hard to get them used to any changes!0 -
The reason they won't phone mobiles is probably because they don't have one of their own and calling mobiles from landlines can be costly.0

I managed to change broadband suppliers where my ex was the named customer. Just applied online for a new broadband contract with a new supplier and quoted my landline number. Simple, quick & easy.0
