Can I switch broadband companies if present account is not in my name?

Suspect I am monumentally thick and its obvious either one way or the other, but...

The phone & broadband contract (which I pay for) expires soon, and I want to switch to a better one with another company. However the contract being used presently is not in my name. Am I able to make the switch myself, thus keeping my current landline number, or will I run into difficulties because of the billing account names not matching?

Thanks for any advice.

It depends on whether you are willing to lie, because they ask if you are the account holder.

Someone, on here, is currently having problems with Sky, as the account is in an ex's name and they won't deal with her, although she pays the bills.

If you register as a new occupier,' then you'll lose the existing number, unless they say otherwise.

That's what I'm afraid will happen, though if it does it does, I suppose. Account holder needs to be changed when contract is up, either way. Annoying, cause I've got elderly relatives who won't use the mobile, and its hard to get them used to any changes!

The reason they won't phone mobiles is probably because they don't have one of their own and calling mobiles from landlines can be costly.

I managed to change broadband suppliers where my ex was the named customer. Just applied online for a new broadband contract with a new supplier and quoted my landline number. Simple, quick & easy.

But many providers now include mobile calls in the anytime calls package . We've found this very useful.
