OS Daily Wednesday 04 January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough

    Morning folks.

Seems damp outside though the forecast is for 'partly sunny' weather.

Today I'll be going to the tip with Christmas, buying more bird feed and doing the online banking. And I'll go up Oban for some shopping, it has a huge new Lidl which I haven't been round yet.

If I get that all done and CBA'd there's prep to do for the last three weeks of literacy and the next 17 weeks of numeracy to start. See, even written down it makes a cloak of ''eugh'' fall over me. :rotfl:

Dumpling - how was your dentist visit? I hope you were OK in the car.

My day starts now, happy Wednesday to everyone.

Morning all, another quick post from me as I need to get going quite soon and so far all I have done is have a cup of tea.
It feels cold but doesn't look icy.
RR I hope your daughter has found her first day rewarding.
Dumpling hope it went well, dentist is never fun.
LaineyT, my thoughts are with you.

Yesterday I called in at Sainsbugs for a bottle of milk for work and spotted hot cross buns and it isn't even twelfth night!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, it's raining but was very cold yesterday and today is forecast the same.

DH going to work early but not stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work also, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato and peas, xmas cake/xmas chocs for dessert for those that wanted some. Remembered to get the chicken out of the freezer to defrost, so tonight we'll be having chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon, with potatoes, veg and gravy, this will use up the cream cheese and bacon that needs eating.

Yesterday as expected work was horrific, we didn't stop virtually all day, most customers were ok, but loads of people moaning and complaining - it's likely to be the same today, but I'm doing a different job on my own in a little office, so although the telephones can be busy I find it much less stressful, we'll see.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks GERS for the thread. It's very very dark outside but sun is forecast later. It feels warmer than yesterday which is good.

Today I must do some shopping but only fruit/veg/dairy. The veg box contains a few onions, a few potatoes and half a swede. The salad drawer just a few cherry toms and some celery. So both need stocking up! Determined to keep eating from the freezers and cupboards, which are still well stocked, and have a very frugal month after all the Christmas spending. And now the poorly car too eating into our finances!

I am out tonight with the "girls" on our first Wednesday of the month wine and carvery night. Looking forward to a laugh, a natter and a catch up of gossip. Just one of our party missing as she is still in Spain where she has been for the last month, staying with her DB and SIL. Lucky her!

I am pleased to say the decluttering resumed yesterday but, oh dear, nearly everything went back in the dresser cupboards despite my good intentions! A lot of stuff in there (which I never use) came from my mums and I couldn't bring myself to pass it on, so it all went back in again! Just a few things I had bought myself went in the cs box! I'm not very good at this decluttering lark I don't think!

Have a good day folks, thinking of LAINEY and all the other poorlies and worried. Take care whatever you are up to xx

Morning all, thanks for the thread Gers xx

DSis found a white feather on the garden path yesterday next to nephews flowers. She texted me at work which set me off thinking again. I'm okay when I'm busy doing my work, but the slightest distraction and I'm off..... police expected to drop off his personal effects this week which will have repercussions I'm sure. This heartache is never ending.

RR - I hope DD had a good first day x
tired mum - lovely to hear about Dolly. I'm looking forward to hearing about her adventures with you x
Lainey - hugs to you and DM x
Dumpling - hope you got on ok yesterday xx

    Have a good day all

    Morning all,

Thanks for all the good wishes re dd, she loved the first day of the new job although it was mainly reading up policies etc, its new scheme that's been set up in our area dealing with victims and perpetrators of child s -e-x abuse so a tough job but she is looking forward to get going on it.

Very frosty here this morning, I left the heating on all night as the bathroom was dripping with damp after all our shower etc, and I could not leave the window open all night, so we left the heating on a low, I must say it was very cosy.

Off to work for me again its quite nice to be back in a good routine. Off to mums for dinner tonight I love Wednesdays as I don't have to cook !

Dumpling hope all went well yesterday x

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's cold and dark here at the moment. My daughters are running around getting ready for school and DD15 has just taken her uniform from the washing machine. She doesn't have time to dry it properly so she's using the hair dryer on it . I am trying to let it go as there is no point telling her off, she has the consequences of a wet uniform to wear to school.

Anyway, yesterday was a disaster. Unfortunately the car broke down halfway to Exeter so I never got to the dentist. My eldest DD came and picked me up from the side of the road and I have never been so happy as to see her or my house. I have to wait for a while now to get another appointment. My poor CMHT lady though, it was a fairly new car but fortunately it was still under warranty.

My friend is coming over for a coffee this morning and to bend my ear no doubt. After that I have shopping being delivered and then I am going to make pasta with bacon and spinach with a creme fraiche sauce. I need to have a bit of a tidy up too.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning all x
Coxy. I understand where you are coming from. It seems like there are constant reminders. Going through the same here. I'm not going to say it gets better we just find ways of coping with it better. Hugs to you and yours xx

Well yesterday was productive in the morning all list done and even had time for an extra walk round the park to get the steps up. Did come home though and settle in front of tv watching a film and had a sneeky nana nap.
Dinner last nght was chicken steaks jacket spud and greens. Tonight gonna use the quorn mince to make a chilli with some brown rice. Healthy eating has taken hold here lol.
DW to be emptied and WM has just finished so need to get that dry.
Popped into cs yesterday and picked up another 2 books for DGD and a pair of birthday card books for DD1 and me. Beautiful butterflies design on them . Let's hope it helps her remember all those birthdays this year.
Both DH and DD2 were shattered when they got home last night. Both of them realised work was extra hard due to catch up.
Eed to pop to Mr M today and get some chilli powder for tonight's dinner and a few other bits but trying not to spend to much as I'm still not working .
    Anyhoo better get on.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx
