I moved address in the summer and sent off my log book and driving license. Today I have realised that I never received back my log book or driving license therefore I can only assume that my address hasn't changed. I have just checked online and my car has not been taxed since September. I have received no information from the DVLA (possibly because of the address) and I am seriously panicking. I cannot tax it as I don't have the log book or a renewal letter. Where do I stand? Any advice at all?
I could honestly cry I am panicking so much.

First thing is first. Knock on the door of your old address to see if they have any brown envelopes addressed to you.
If not then request a new V5C with your new address using this form HERE
And a new driving licence at this address https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-to-replace-a-driving-licence
And you can apply for car tax at the post office with your V62 request form for a new V5C. (Top link)0 -
You'll need to stop driving the vehicle also0

The DVLA will probably claim they never received your documents - so they'll blame you.
When posting anything to scroungers like the DVLA it's always a good idea to obtain a (free) proof of posting receipt from the Post Office. With such a document as evidence they will be deemed to have received your correspondence.
Unfortunately I suspect you can look forward to a load of hassle with this one.0 -

I must admit that anything I need to send to a Government department gets POP, due to fear of incompetence. I worked in a Gov department once and found a load of paperwork dumped in a cupboard by a staff member who couldn't cope with workload so hid the evidence!0 -
Call them on 0870 025 0121. Bypass all the options until the final option where you can speak to an advisor.
Have all your dates written down and your drivers licence number so they know who they are talking to.
September is nothing, I own quite a few cars and classic cars that I don't use in my lockup and one of them went without tax for almost a year!
Just give them a call and they will help you. Good luck!0 -
Am I best ringing them or acting dumb and just sending and paying for a new log book. To be fair it is my fault in a way because I should have sent it recorded and should have chased it when it didn't arrive but I simply forgot. I'm panicking I'm going to end up losing my license because of it. I sent my actual license off at the same time and haven't had that back either so I'm guessing they're both stuck in the bottom of the phone box. It's making me feel sick the thought of all this. I've been driving my children around in an untaxed and therefore uninsured car for 3/4 month! I even insured my car after this so I'm not sure how that's even gone through. Wouldn't mind but the tax is only £20 per year so it's not like I've avoided it because it's expensive. I'm so annoyed with myself.0

Three separate issues.
a. you have lost your driving licence. Apply for a replacement: https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-to-replace-a-driving-licence
b. you have lost your log book. Get a new one
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-log-book
^ Worth a phone call to get out of the charges since they appear to have lost it. But if you pay the replacement charges then by this time next week you'll have a new log book in hand and feeling less stressed about it.
c. you have been driving untaxed vehicle. Don't drive it again until it is regularised. You were "lucky" nothing happened. No tax doesn't de facto invalidate your insurance, but obviously no tax is not a good state of being. Get is regularised, then take a deep breath and restart 2017 x
Edited to Add: I take a photo with my phone of any documents that I send off for replacement/etc. Has been very helpful to me in the past when asked for my passport number for a dbs check at a time when my passport was off in the post doing something else.0 -
That's exactly what I've done and I managed to tax it yesterday evening by finding the pics x0

Am I looking at a hefty fine? X0

Have you been to your old house to see if anything was sent back to you there? (Any correspondence on possible fines for non-payment of tax will have been sent to your last-known address).0
