Downsides of whatsapp


if you are abroad or have no mobile data - you will not receive any messages until you are connected to wifi (or mobile data)


No matter how many times I tell my friends to use text instead if I am abroad -they still use whatsapp to try and make plans for that night etc.


I use both whatsapp and texts - both have a place.


I like that you can see on whatsapp when a message is delivered and read.

Not really a downside, that's just how an internet messaging app works.

Whatsapp is simply text messaging plus.

Can send messages, emojis, pictures, videos all without the fear of being ripped of, and then their are the groups!

Im in several groups (family group, certain friends, and a group for an online DJ and his fans) and they are really fun.

Why anyone would still use SMS is beyond me.

I've just downloaded Whatsapp on my phone specifically to send photos etc. between my daughter and I, but as stated several times above there are limitations. I'm on PAYG, so only use it from home over my wifi connection.

Out of all the contacts in my phone only half a dozen use Whatsapp so even if I did have a data plan I'd still have to use texting to communicate with them.

It really shouldn't be beyond anybody to understand that.

WhatsApp is brilliant. It's effectively killed SMS, which is good really because SMS Is an outdated pile of crap.

Agreed sms is outdated and clunky but at 23 billion of them being sent per day, i would say it is far far from being dead

Not found any cons so far.

I like it for this reason too - but I use SMS also and found a way of getting SMS messages on my PC. I use an application called Mightytext - you can see it here
