    just a few questions
are you putting power in the shed ? have you worked out how ?

I've made 2 12 x 10 wooden sheds last few years no power to them
got the loglap off ebay, and the main timbers secondhand,
sloping roof (just easier) covered with EPDM rubber roofing (costs a bit but worth it)
fitted with old UPVC doors & windows
built it on 9" blocks to raise above the grass/ground level
think they cost £600-800, not cheap but they are size & shape I wanted to fit in that part of garden
    think they cost about

    Very good question.

Yes I will definitely be getting power in there. We have recently had our house rewired so I have an electrician on hand. I will do the manual labour (e.g. dig the trench for the wire)

Ive just had this built in our back garden
    https://www.tuin.co.uk/Wolfgang-Log-Cabin-DG.html

I have no access to the back of our garden and all the wood had to come through our front door > living room > kitchen and it wasnt too bad. longest piece was 5 meters

I'ts been built on short stilts about 8 inches off the floor to allow for air to flow. both the floor and roof are insulated but not the walls. Electrics and Decking around it should be going in soon to finish it off

Wow that looks great, pleased to hear you got it in the garden ok. I've got a side gate, its narrow but I think I should be ok.

Hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions as it sounds like you are doing exactly what I want to do.
When you say its been built on short stilts did you have to concrete them in to the ground? do you know where you bought them from? My area is covered in gravel at the moment and i'm just trying to decide what its going to sit on.

How did you insulate the floor and the roof? was this easy to do on a already made log cabin?

    Thanks

I'll be honest, i cheated and had someone recommended by the company i brought it from build it for me (i'm useless at DIY)

I have slabs on the ground (under the stilts) and these are the similar to the stilts being used. They are adjustable to help you get a good level
    https://www.tuin.co.uk/Timber-Frame-Base-Pads.html

The frame i believe is built with tantalised wood and in between the joists is foil backed insulation.

This is good explanation of the different bases.
    https://www.tuin.co.uk/blog/base-requirements-for-log-cabins/

For the roof, the same foil backed insulation is on top (outside) of the wood but then covered with batons and shingles.

It took 2 people 2 days to build but took me about 4 days to give it 3 coats of paint lol :(

Tuin as a company were excellent in my opinion and we're very happy with the cabin. One thing i would say though is ignore the 'Sale ends in 2 weeks' crap on the website. Its been that price since August when i ordered it

Thanks for the info. No worries if you haven't built it yourself, the info you provided will definitely help me.
I'm thinking about doing my base the same as yours using slabs and stilts. Those pads look great and have good reviews. My only concern is rodents living underneath, but I suppose I could block it off.

    Hey there,

    We have recently built a log cabin ourselves - a 12ft x 10ft from 1clicklogcabins - the Ashbourne:

    http://www.1clicklogcabins.co.uk/shop/log-cabins/ashbourne-44mm-log-cabin/

I absolutely love it, and it was dead easy to put together. We did it all on our own in a weekend - myself, boyfriend and a friend on one day, and just the two of us the next day. Once we had squared and secured the base of it, it went up really quickly, and was easy to do - it has survived winter well and looks grand. The decking we used to base it on took much longer to build to be honest.

1clicklogcabins were a bit pricier on this model than tiger sheds, but they price-matched tiger for me, were very quick (like 2 weeks I think - or less even), and allowed us to choose a delivery date rather than dictate one. They also brought the delivery into our back garden for us rather than drop it curbside.

I can't recommend them enough. So happy with it - and we had enough floor/ roofboards left over for me to make a desk out of inside as well. Its a great little office. We have lit it with a great solar light so far, as we're having problems getting electricity out there (to do with house & ongoing insurance matter - nothing to do with shed).

    Thanks for the response Laura.
Your log cabin looks great and really well built (I like the paint work). That's good to hear that they price matched tiger sheds.
  • They were great and open to a little light haggling. They were also great on the phone for advice, and for the possibility of customising. My only quibble was the instructions weren't great when we got up to the Pent Roof as they are generic for the Apex sheds - we obviously worked it out in the end but there was a good half hour tea break where we all just stared at the wood for a while.

Things like locks are also included as standard, which is good. Think you may have to pay extra to Tiger for those.

  • Hi, please can I ask how you got on with the garden room? Any pics? Did you insulate? If so, how? Thanks in advance
