    I saw my union rep on Monday, he told me about the old trick of the contract.

    I think I need to go off sick when the time comes, as long as i can provide sick notes and then i am covered, there is a risk they can fire me for being off long term sick... but we will cross that bridge when we get there, i have provided them with the aftercare paperwork i have which will give them an indication of how poorly i could be and they also know why i need to stay away until my immune system has grown back.

    I think that's your most sensible plan. I was going to suggest it, but you needed to reach the decision yourself as you know your employers best. :)
