Not asked for NC proof?

Just checking, recently changed car insurer. Got everything set up online and all seemed fine. Had NC proof ready to send off, but have not had a request for it at all.

Can some companies get the NC from the previous insurer directly or through some kind of insurer information sharing scheme?

Just don't want to have missed anything. Been about 3 weeks and all done online/email so would have expected some kind of notification by now. Had plenty of emails from them and all seems fine.

Thanks

Some ask everyone. Others ask on a random basis or a risk based method.

Funny, isn't it? The insurance industry has all sorts of big brother databases to check up on you - except one! Apparently there is no central database of NCD. Of course such a database would be really useful to the customer, but they don't have it. I wonder why not?

    You are mistaken.

There is a NCD database (google Experian NCD database to read all about it)

So why do insurers still demand manual proof of NCD?

You are doubly mistaken - as there are currently 2 in operation :p

Not every insurer/broker subscribes to these databases though (they are quite expensive to use)...

The automated no claims discount verification process replaces costly and labour-intensive manual processes.

This would imply a cost benefit for their use.

Presumably those that do don't subscribe to the database.

(You should still keep your proof in case you get asked for it.)

One of the databases seems to have been around since 2013. It would be interesting to know how many companies avail themselves of it :D

Here's the cynic in me - the insurance companies don't really want this d/b. They'd much rather be able to withhold proof of NCD when you cancel a policy, until such time as you've met every one of their T&Cs and paid up the (usually exorbitant) cancellation fee.

You take the risk that whenever you default with any creditor that they will not co-operate with you till you pay your debt!

Of course it will imply that - the company providing it want to sell it to insurers/brokers, they're hardly going to say anything else.

The reality though is often very different as the licensing and transactional costs can be a barrier to use.
