O/S Daily Tuesday 3 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, cold and frosty also wet underfoot - so icy and slippy under foot.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Lunch yesterday was spare ribs, savoury rice, then a selection of the frozen mini party snacks, spring rolls, tempura prawns, won tons, prawn toasts etc, have created some space in 1 of the freezers, thought it'd be more, it's still quite full, and the inside freezer is full to bursting, tonight's dinner is gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato and peas.

I'm back to work today, expecting it to be busy - we'll see. We were busier Saturday than I thought we'd be.

I do need to get my 2017 diary in to my bag, but it's one of the filofax things and I need to take the last year's pages out and put the new in, then transfer any info, just not been bothered to do it - I'm working in an office on my own tomorrow all day, depending how busy/quiet it is, I could utilise some of that time, as there's not much else I can do as I'll be hooked up to a telephone system, so can't go off and do other jobs. I'm going in earlier than normal this morning as we have a job to do and the supervisor asked me to go in to do it with her (we have to have 2 people), so I'll get away earlier tonight.

Keep safe and well x

Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc xx

I'm getting the early train this morning as I have a meeting at 9am. Luckily no frost outside today so the walk to the station should be ok.

I've just out on one load of washing with another to go on afterwards. Normal chores have taken a backseat these past few days. DH will sort out later. Dinner will be something with beef mince as that's what I've got out to defrost!

    Have a good day all.

    Morning :hello:

Hello Coxy I was just thinking about you then I saw your post! Hope you're OK xx

My four poinsettias were looking a bit sad so I've removed the dead bits, given them a good drink and put them in two baskets in pairs. They've perked right up and it looks like I have two big bushy plants now, instead of four pathetic spindly things. Wish I could keep them going all year. I kept one going til August a few years ago, was thrilled with that :D

I think I've found a unit for the bathroom. I've been searching for a certain size but can't find one that'll fit properly (tall and skinny, but they're all too tall, slighty shorter ones are too wide) so have had to settle for a much shorter one. I'll measure the space again today to double-check then order it if it's right.

I've been sorting through my jars, I didn't realise how many I had til I gathered them all up. I recycled the small ones and have plenty of large ones. We've eaten a lot of pickles lately, especially beetroot, so I'll plan the veg patch with that in mind.

I've lost my 2017 calendar, no problem, I'll just print another one. But the file isn't on the computer, I must've deleted it! I'll have to make another one, I'm not happy about this at all, lol.

Only a few more days of imprisonment for the girls. I can't wait to let them out and see them arguing over who gets to eat first and scratching about for worms :D

    Morning all,

Eugh back to work :( I did not sleep too well as I got up too late yesterday and so could not sleep so it was a real struggle getting up today, I shall look forward to getting back into routine today and will hopefully be tired tonight.

DD starts her new job today as a qualified social worker, working in a very specific field she got the job three months ago so its been a long wait for her, she is really looking forward to it and went and bought new stationary yesterday in preparation :rotfl:

Not sure about dinner tonight I might do a cheesy bean pie for quickness as there is some bacon to be used up.

Hope you all have good days and the back to work thing is not too much of a shock !
  • Morning all
Off to work for me today, but first I need to scrape the car, it's minus2 out there, brrr.
Thanks for the thread nmlc, hugs to Coxy & Lainey, good luck to RR's DD in her new job.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all x
Well DH up and gone to work and DD2 up and leaving shortly so back to normal soon here. Tbh I have loved having them home but I will be glad to get back to having a peaceful house again during the day.
Just put the bins out in a panic then realised that they are not coming till tomorrow lol. Well that's one less job to do in the morning.
DW needs to be emptied and washing needs to be done.
DH and myself are going to try and lose some weight this year so healthy eating is needed so I have no idea what dinner will be tonight. Breakfast will be porridge and fruit for me.
Was looking at the garden yesterday and realised just how much it needs my attention so if it stays dry I might get out there later.
    Anyhoo better get on.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Morning((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.

We have just had breakfast,OH has an appointment this afternoon to see if there is something causing the choking, so nothing to eat until we get back home. I am taking the opportunity to nip into the City and buy some new scaffolding (bras). My stock is seriously depleted. So JL here I come. I need to have blinkers on when I am in that shop, especially round the kitchen gadgets!!

We are not getting up yet, nothing to do, so will have a lie in till about 9.30.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I awoke early this morning as I am very stressed about today's event. I have to go to the dentist but because I am so fat, I have to go to Exeter hospital to be treated. My lovely CMHT lady is taking me but it's a good hour and a half away in the car and honestly I am a nervous wreck :o:o.

Hubby has finally got up so I can go and get showered and dressed in a minute. The girls want to go shopping today so I will get them up too. They are back to school tomorrow but hubby has the rest of this week off still so that is lovely.

Tea tonight will be faggoty pea stew which hubby has offered to make for us. The girls will fend for themselves as they are not keen on faggots. I used my new soup maker yesterday to make broccoli and stilton soup. It turned out really nice so I was very happy. I have bought a recipe book to go with it so I am looking forward to trying new flavours of soup in the near future.

Well, I'd better go and get ready before the horde of teenagers take over the bathroom. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No sun forecast for today, just black cloud all day. I hate depressing days.

I have a pan of turkey broth on the go for Mr TA's lunches over the next few days. I think he enjoys that more than the actual turkey dinner so I always make sure there are lots of bits of meat left to put in when I boil up the carcass! I shall stick to the lentil and bacon soup I made yesterday. More to my taste! There is still a bit of gammon left from Sunday's never-ending joint so tea is going to be that with some mini pork pies and cranberry sausage rolls unearthed in the freezer this morning! I'll plate it all up with some salad and baby rosemary roasties.

Mr TA is only just getting his appetite back again after the op and then the sickness bug. He just wanted to pick at tasty bits and pieces rather than tackle a big plateful all over the festive period.

I don't feel like turning out this morning but I need to pick my prescription up from the surgery as I'll run out of some medication today. Mr TA will drop me off as he is taking the poorly car to the garage. Aaargh can do without a big bill after all the expense of Xmas but if it's the same problem as last time when it was losing power we can expect one.

This afternoon I shall resume my decluttering - if I CBA!!! Getting my feet up with my book may prove more tempting!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) to LAINEY and dm and all the other poorlies, sad and anxious. Take care whatever you are up to xx

Dumpling take care hope all goes well today
    Lainey thinking of you
R Ruby I think we are leading paralel lives DD1 started as a Social Worker 2 years ago at the 1st day back in January and she loves her job working in adult services its hard work but so rewarding good luck for her first day she will love it
Well there is big news from the Tired house DH and I could stand it no more being in a dogless home so we discussed what we should do wether to get 2 little mini daschunds in the summer which was always our original plan or get 2 cross breeds well you all know the next bit we decided that the cost of a pedigree dog was too much so we would pop down to the local dog trust there wasn't anything on the website that we liked that had a picture so we thought we would get registered and have a home check in preparation for when there was a match for us Dolly (was pumpkin)comes home to us on the 10th all being well with the home check on Friday she is a small 8 month old stray cross little bit timid and wary of other dogs but otherwise a lovely little girl we did pick another one but he was not for us as was very dog aggressive and we walk in a little group every evening so work to be done with Miss Dolly to make sure it all goes well
Right onwards and upwards got the floors to do today as we went out yesterday .Pie n mash for dinner and a quick tidy through
Have a great day whatever you are up to x
