Cost to knock through wall and put in door

Hi all,

I am buying a home which is 4 years old. I would like to knock through one of the walls and put in a door to make a storage cupboard. It is already part of a built in wardrobe but by putting in a door at the top of the stairs as well, it will make the space much more usable. Does anyone have any idea as to the cost of someone doing this for us?

Also, the under-stairs cupboard is not full height as there is a plasterboard box in it which means you cannot walk straight in and have to duck instead. Is there an easy way to find out what this box is?

Thanks for any help - I am very poor at DIY!!

Cost me about £300 for similar, Mine was knocking a wall down and blocking up a door to make a bigger room including the previous storage cupboard

I want a door joining my bedroom to a small room being converted into a walk in wardrobe.

The builder quoted £180 to make the hole and then would refer me into a joiner re the door frame.

He made it sound really easy though just cutting through the plasterboard.

Thought about a sliding door as it gives the room much mire usable space, but costs more?
