O/S Daily Monday 2nd January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, but very wet and dirty after yesterdays horrible rain that started as some point in the early hours and just didn't stop all day - loads of laying water, and last night the temperature dropped, not sure whether we've had a frost, hope not otherwise everywhere will be treacherous.

DH and myself up and enjoying first cuppas, boys still in their pits - it's the last day of time off for us all.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed, I put the meat in on a low heat early - we then went to visit both sets of parents and we were longer than we thought, but got back and got all the veg prepped and cooked and it was just after 2pm when we ate, but the meat was so tender and lovely no-one moaned! There wasn't any LO meat - but it wasn't that big, but there is some yorkshires and cauli/broc cheese, I'll incorporate those into a meal over the coming days.

Today's dinner will be spare ribs, savoury rice, and picky bits from the freezer (we were going to have these NYE, but didn't) so nice and easy.

We were going to see DH's grandad but we're going next week as it's my birthday and we're going out for lunch and taking him too, we do have a few jobs here that need to be done, so another chill day but we do need to get some jobs done.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

I think sending mr tru to live with the chickens is a great idea. He can sleep under the perch. Did you know, they poop A LOT while sleeping on their perch?

I've decluttered the wine (only four bottles left now!), all the chocolate coins from the Christmas tree, and quite a few Roses (which I'm not impressed with, some of the chocolates have changed and the wrappers are all wrong, lol). Also, the multivitamins which I was taking because I couldn't eat properly. It had become such a habit that I'd carried on with them even though I've been able to eat for the past few weeks, I realised what I was doing yesterday morning and have binned them. I bleached my teaspoons too. So quite a productive day, I think :D My halo is still shining nmlc lol.

Scampi was relaxed last night, unlike the night before when he barked like a devil dog at every single firework. They went on for ages, so he did too. He's always been fine with them before. I'm going to look into Adaptil diffusers, I can't watch him get that stressed again. And to be honest, I don't want to have to put up with it again!

I'll leave the decorations up til tomorrow but will take down the cards, put the candles away, etc today. All the bits, as I call them, lol. I'm almost out of fresh food but can't face going to the shops yet. I'll do an online order and top it up to the minimum spend with extra bread for the freezer, loo rolls and cleaning stuff.

I'm trying to change my avatar but it keeps saying 'invalid'. It's the same one I used all of last year so I don't know what's going on, I've double checked the size and it's OK. I went to the Site Feedback board and others have had the same problem, hope it's fixed soon.

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start. Yesterday we had blue sky and sun most of the day but by heck it was cold! Today sun is again forecast with a high of 2 deg! Brr!

I am not one for making NY resolutions (I never stick to them!) but I have promised myself that this is the year I am going to get rid of clutter. Every drawer and every cupboard is crammed with "stuff" that I hardly ever need or use. Not to mention wardrobes crammed with clothes we never wear! So every day I am going to tackle at least one drawer or one cupboard and be ruthless! (I am not brave enough to join the KonMari or No clutter threads just yet!)

I have currently got a double batch of lentil and bacon soup in the sc so some of that will be an easy lunch with a ham salad wrap. The rest will be frozen. There is quite a bit of yesterday's gammon joint left so that will be dinner tonight with fried up new potatoes and a poached egg I think. There are some sad looking mushrooms I'll fry up too before they need chucking!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need/want of one. Thoughts as always with LAINEY and her dm. COXY how are you? Thinking of all the other poorlies and sad too. Take care whatever you are up to xx

    Morning everyone.

My, it's fresh outside. This could be the start of winter proper.

Yesterday I really enjoyed the do I went to, lovely people all just chatting away. It was funny watching everyone turn up wearing head torches (me included) to see the way from where cars were being parked. The sky was so clear the Plough could be clearly seen.

I didn't stay too long and was tucked under the duvet in time for Sherlock.

Today I am determined to tackle the stuff in the utility room, once again the window ledge has become the last resting place of a whole mess of stuff. Apart from that I don't yet know.

Tru - you've given me an unwanted image of your OH roosting with the chooks all fluffy and clucky with a male face. Scary!

Welcome to our newbies. Hugs to the poorlies.

    Happy Monday to all.

    Morning All

Cold here too but lovely clear skies, the stars were twinkling when I got up.

Ironing done and bins emptied. Must run the hoover round later, I've made a mess emptying the fire. I think a walk is called for today as it is so lovely, may go to Balloch Park. I've had a reminder that my library books are overdue but the stamp in them is 7 Jan, they are finished anyway so will take them back if they are open today.

I made a bag yesterday for a colleague at work, it's her birthday in a couple of weeks and she uses a bag for life so this is along the same lines but a bit nicer! I was making a shoulder bag but it was too wide, quite pleased I could change it.

How's DM Lainey? Coxy, hope you and the family are ok. Have a good day. Take care. XX

    Good morning,

Still in Rome until tonight, still coughing and yesterday evening I nearly suffocated, just as well I always carry with me a blue inhaler, since I had a bronchial spasms following a flu bout. Well, it might have saved my life last night when, after some 15 minutes coughing fit, I just could not get the breath in between coughs. Managed to get DH to give me the pump and it took me three attempts to get the breath back.

Very seriously, I think that the aggravating factor, notwithstanding the flu, was the dreadful airspray they use in the hotel rooms. We had kept the windows open but it clings to everything, wallpaper, furniture, it is cloying and gets the throat! When I complained to the evening duty receptionist first she tried to deny it and when I told her that the cleaning lady had confirmed it, she became all defensive and told me that they spray for hygiene purposes, to "refresh" the air and sanitise it. Ermmm, why? Anyway, I was seeing it wasn't going anywhere with her so I emailed the hotel manager asking why they use such toxic stuff in contrast with their stated environmental policy. DH said that they can be "hung by their own petard" LOL, I am going to ask to speak with the manager in person but wanted to have a written record, will update you on results later.

Incidentally, if anyone is using the stuff at home, you might want to read this, one of many reports about what fresheners do to health!

    http://healthscamsexposed.com/2013/05/the-great-air-freshener-scam-thats-slowly-killing-you/

Back later to report, meanwhile, have a good day x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.

Up at bit later this morning after another rubbish nights sleep, good to see the rain has gone though and we have clear skies this morning. There was so much water lying around yesterday, scary drive home from the hospice in the dark :(
Mum sleeps a lot now but is comfortable thank you Camelot, at one point we did all sit and look at an old photo album which started with pictures of M&D's honeymoon and finished with us kids as toddlers, bought back many happy memories for us all.
DB is doing a morning visit today so will split the day up and go over this afternoon, this morning I will tidy through, DOH wants to keep the decs up until tomorrow but like TRU I will start to tidy away cards etc. Also need to de-clutter the dogs as they are shedding like mad and need a good brush :)
Welcome to all new folks, have a good day everyone x

Good Morning chums and had a nice breakfast and just going home now via Aldis and Sainsbury's to get all of my fruit and veg .apart from that no food shopping needing to be bought.

I woke with a rotten back ache this morning I think I slept a bit odd so my day of minimising my study has gone out of the window I think gentle pottering today once home with no extra strain on my lower back with hopefully sort it out.
weather is quite bright but cold so I shall be indoors tucked up on the sofa with some warming ginger wine and my library book this afternoon I think.
Hope you all have a good day
    Cheers everyone

    JackieO xx

PS Caterina I hate those air-freshener things, if I want fresh air I just open the window, free and untaxed by the government at the moment :):):)
  • Good morning all.
It's cold and frosty here today. I've just taken DH up his usual cup of tea in bed, had my breakfast, and the cat has joined me on the sofa for some cuddles.
Yesterday's walk, whilst being fun, ranks as the second wettest walk I've ever done! It started out ok but the rain just got heavier and heavier as we went round; my trousers were sticking to my legs, one of the girls slipped over and someone else carried our spare cagoul all the way round and then gave it back to us unused at the end! Anyway, I'd taken a spare pair of trousers with me to change into afterwards - thank goodness. The meal afterwards was lovely; one of our friends asked if he could take the uneaten roast potatoes home with him so they were wrapped up in foil and he was going to have them for an evening snack!
I'm currently undecided as to what we'll eat tonight. We've used up most of the Christmas food so I might make a cauliflower cheese to have with jacket potatoes. We have plenty of eggs so also thought about making some scotch pancakes as they'll keep in the fridge for a day or two.
Ah - the sun is now shining so I'd better be up and doing things.
    Have a good day everyone.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Wow after all that rain we have had a heavy frost, the roads will be like glass, glad we do not have to go out today.

Bed stripped, sheets etc in the washer, I will hang it out for a while, finish it off in the dryer or on the airer.

Another bad night last night OH was fidgiting for the world, so told him to put the light back on and read. I made another drink and he settled down just after 1.30 am. I was still awake at 3 am. I really hate those nights, It makes me so lethargic in the morning.

No plans for today, we seem to have got hooked on doing jigsaws on the computer. Some of them are very challenging........took me over an hour yesterday to do a 150 piece one.

Supper tonight is cold gammon jacket spud and salad. Easy supper, I do the spuds in the combi, they cook in about 20 minutes on the spud programme.

OH has just been out to the bin for the compost heap, he says its raw out, I hope its eased a bit when I go to put the bed linen out.

Need to get my bum into gear, re-make the bed and re set the fire. I have left the central heating on this morning as its so cold.

Lainey, my thoughts are with you and your family, your Mum is comfortable and that must be a great relief to you all. The hospice will keep the pain under control and help you too, thats what they are there for.

Brr it's cold. I didn't sleep well last night, I was in pain and couldn't find the stronger painkillers and paracetamol didn't help. I too plan to start taking the decs down because we want to get on with painting the living room this week.

First though we have the obligatory visit to the DIY place. Silly me, thinking that because we have the paint and roller, brushes etc we wouldn't need one this time. Unfortunately it seems that it is the law that we can't do any sort of project without visiting one of these places.

We saw DS very briefly last night when he popped in to borrow a socket set .They are going to the zoo today because the weather was so awful yesterday they didn't get there. They bought a new TV instead (there's a lot of it going around, Tru) which is why he needed the socket set to fix it to the wall.

While we are out I must buy a card for the friend who's father died on Friday but apart from that I don't want to spend any money on groceries. I need to go through my stores and list what I have got and meal plan for the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure I'll have enough to survive on only buying milk, bread and a few veggies.

Coxy, Lainey, Hilstep and anyone else in need I hope you have a good day.
