Molerat,
Even if call and bargain with PlusNet, fact remains they are now more expensive than Sky as unable to claim a decent Cash Back - have stuck with PN for two years, but loyalty does not pay and more than £6 per month in pricing makes a large difference, as does better equipment - speeds I'm hoping will be the same, which is 4.5-6Mb on the line we have. For your info, in Hong Kong where i live such a service at 20 quid a month for 6Mb download would be considered a bargain - no super high speeds for me I'm afraid and zero competition as live in the sticks, so stuck with awful BB and prices for another year or two and then will be expected to pay 40 quid plus a month for a 20Mb service if lucky, so UK stacks up well compared to my own services.0 -
Mine came in at equivalent to £18.81 taking in to account line rental saver and the £50 Amazon voucher so was a bit of a no brainer really.0

Molerat,
This time last year PlusNet were offering a £50.00 CashBack to new subscribers, which after haggling they paid out to my folks in order to retain their business - no such luck this year I'm afraid, so unless a cash offer appears before the month's end, will move to new supplier, namely Sky if current cutback offer does not run out too soon.0 -
PlusNet's anytime calls have been £8 for at least 2 months, as they were that price when I joined from Sky. The later only offered me free ADSL (previously had half price line, too), making my bill £25.40 with the calls, but PlusNet was cheaper because of line rental saver and cashback.
I suppose I'll be saving a little with the latter's poor service, but with recent combined cost price hike cons, Sky looks attractive again....but things will have changed in 9 to 10 months time.0 -
Ok, done move to Sky and here's a breakdown of all costs - presently with PlusNet and contract ends in early February.
Sky Broadband and phone = £17.40 per month
Sky Unlimited Phone Calls = £ 8.00 per month
Set up fees/P&P = £ 9.95 one off charge
Sky Q Hub = £20.00 one off charge for AC wifi router
Total actual 12 month cost is: £334.75 excluding TopCashBack £77.00
Total monthly cost with CashBack applied is £21.90 per month
CashBack has tracked and now awaiting Sky changeover dates to be supplied and amended not to breach T&C's of PlusNet.
This is not the cheapest deal out there for BroadBand and phone with unlimited calls, but it is the cheapest deal with a AC Router and works out cheaper than purchasing a decent Netgear or Linksys Router.
My present set up is a old TalkTalk modem connected to a Apple 5th Generation duel channel wifi router, which is now showing its age and has very limited range compared to newer AC wifi routers.0 -

Have you actually agreed the switch, as they tend to migrate you in 10 working days from ordering , which mean you leave PlusNet while still in your minimum term ?
The Sky price of £17.40 (ie the cost of line only) is temporary and could change in 24 hours.0 -
There will be a £35 (?) cease fee from PlusNet, as they count going to an LLU provider as a cease, nowadays ?0
-
Check your on line account with plusnet after the switch date, if they have closed it, you won't be able to log in to check its correct.
If you can log in, they will probably continue to bill you by 'mistake'...0 -
@Tedysmum,
Thanks for feedback and warnings of hidden charges by PlusNet. As far as the saga goes today, Sky notified a Activation date of 18th Jan, a date allegedly set by PlusNet, meaning breach of contract and 30 quid charge - after lots of hassle with Sky and beginning cancellation of order process with Sky to avoid charges was instructed Sky would pay the fee if presented them with the bill - I refused to accept this at which juncture 30 quid was added to my account - we are out of pocked by 3 weeks with Value Line payment with PN, on the other hand Sky Sale and TopCashBack offer ended on Friday, so stood to lose a fair bit. If I incur any further charges over next week I'm still in the 14 day cooling off cycle and would cancel order if matters not to my benefit. As for other charges, checking PlusNet account now, but will challenge either PN or Sky as info you are giving different to info on Sky's website, a difference I'd exploit. Thus far, with CashBack and credit added by Sky we are £107 ahead and have a cheap Sky deal - now expired, but will keep updating and giving status to help others.
One big positive, contract with Sky will end on 17th Jan 2018, meaning its easier to switch and catch sales next year, so not all doom and gloom, despite some time wasting my end caused by Sky.0 -
@Molerat@Boatman,
Thanks for input, any charges imposed by Plusnet now covered by Sky to the tune of 30.00 quid, any other charges will be challenged and keeping a close eye on matters given my 14 day cooling off period ends on 18th Jan - can see no additional charges from PN as on a Value Line Rental agreement with unlimited phone calls, so only addition charge would be 6.50, which is not showing in PlusNet account. As it stands, paying less with Sky than PlusNet, despite quite a few hassles over 48 hours. The positive, we are £107 in credit with Sky, approx. 8 quid a month and Sky offer far less than PN, even with a Q Hub charge rammed on top. Will advise further, but quite happy thus far at outcome and only got outcome by challenging and demanding my consumer rights.0
