  • Huge congratulations on the new job

  • Great diary! Following along & cheering you on!

I'll probably end up buying in London in the next few years, so keen to know how folks are faring with these massive mortgages!

I'm in the PhD game too - although, I'll be doing it part-time hopefully next to my FT job. Good luck with the interviews! What discipline are you going for?

Wow congratulations on the new job! What a great au increase and hopefully better work life balance with the lesser commute! :D

Your holiday plans sound ace! I can wholeheartedly recommend China- I loved it when I went a few years ago, just mesmerisingly beautiful and fascinating!

Thanks, it should be brilliant. :)

That's great to hear, we're still toying with options but China is really high on the list. For next year if we don't make it this time.
Huge congratulations on the new job

Thanks! :) Very happy with it.

There are a few of us round here with the crazy London mortgages, it's definitely a good place for support. :)

My background is in virology, so that's my ideal discipline. A part time PhD must be a huge commitment, you have my respect for that! Which discipline would you be aiming for?

Thanks to whoever used my cash show reference, I won £3.50 this lunchtime. :) Spent this afternoon sorting finances and gardening. You paid off the parent loan! Congratulations! The mortgage rate is brill, and the mortgage - well, yes, its crazy London. I have 3 married nephews living in London in places they're buying, and even with ambitious wives with great salaries, I don't know how they cope. Full of admiration for you! And sympathy for your broken foot :(

Thanks GG! Let's just hope I can succeed, it will certainly be a lot of work. My boss got me to announce that I was leaving in a meeting so the cat is firmly out of the bag.

Thanks KC. :) OH loves tulips too, I am a terrible person and like to eat my garden but I can compromise for the sake of my marriage. London property is crazy. We would have managed a flat if it wasn't for the six figure inheritance from my FiL but never a house.

Been a good beginning to the month. We popped over to Asda on Easter Monday and did very well. OH picked up a few Easter Eggs (sometimes it's easier just not to argue!) but we also picked up free bags of veg that they were giving away due to leftover stock. So we knocked up a roast dinner courtesy of Asda. :D

Not much else going on this week, rounded up the mortgage payment and we've now paid off £20k in capital. Slowly but surely we are getting there!

Busy times up ahead, I have a student Monday and Wednesday, a training course for new job Tuesday evening. A friend from the US is coming to visit on Wednesday and four more visitors arrive on Saturday! But mostly it should be fun though. :)
