The impossible toilet! Help with how to access cistern on B&Q Seattle loo.

Hi everyone! I have a Cooke & Lewis Seattle toilet that was fitted by the previous owners of the house. It's not filling up properly (will only flush once every few hours) so I went to take the lid off to see what's what, only to find it's apparently impossible to get off. It has a push button flush, I can take the actual flushing buttons out but not the little cup they sit in as it appears to be attached to the flush mechanism. The water intake is at the bottom of the cistern, weirdly, so I assume it's not a standard ball in there but I can't get the lid off at all! I don't know if I be getting stymied by fact that the installers built a little tiled wood-frame spacer between the wall and the toilet. If anyone can help I'd be super grateful, I already hate this toilet with a passion because the silly shape of the pan means I can't replace the seat.

Isn't the lid just siliconed down?0

No it's not silicone sealed at all, I can lift it up a bit but the flush is holding it all on. And I have tried googling for this specific toilet but without success.0

Lift the buttons out & it will either have a screw in it or the whole outer piece unscrewsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

The white plastic things inside the button recess, try unscrewing them anti clockwise?
Failing that, see if you can push the rectangular piece towards the round piece and see if that lets you lift out the insert.0 -
Thanks all, managed to get the lid off but can't figure out what's the matter as it doesn't have a ball valve which was what I was assuming the problem was! Think I'm going to have to get someone in, not very money saving but I'm stumped!0
