phone, network or sim problem?

Options
I am having a few problems and I am not sure if it is my phone, my sim or the network!

People are telling me that when they call my phone, to them it is like my phone is switched off, it just goes directly to my voicemail, on my end the phone does not ring at all, so I am none the wiser if somebody tries to call me. I am now unable to call anyone either, instead of the usual call connecting sounds I just get silence then it disconnects straight away, text messages seem to be going through fine, and everything else on my phone is also working fine.

I have three bars of reception yet in my notification bar at the top of my phone it says "No service, selected network (02 UK) unavailable", I also have "emergency calls only" right at the top. Two seconds later I have service again, then the next time I look at my phone it is gone again. I have been on Giffgaff for a few years now and it usually says Giffgaff, for some reason it is now saying 02.

I have taken my sim out, tried my boyfriends sim and had the same thing, yet his sim works fine in his phone, I have done a hard reset, and as a last resort tried a brand new Giffaff sim and still had the same thing. I have checked the coverage checker on Giffgaff's website and also on 02 and both are saying no problems in my area.

This has been happening going on 3 weeks now and all Giffgaff have said to me is try a new sim.

Does anyone here have any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Have you not answered your own question there? You've tried three different sims (one of which you know works in a different phone) and you've checked the coverage on a different phone (both on O2/Giffgaff I presume?) which rules that out. That only leaves your phone (again presuming you've tried it in a different location?), I sense a late Xmas present coming your way I'm afraid.

What's your phone out of interest?

If it's a smartphone is it running the latest available software update?

Giffgaff was acquired by O2 and runs on the O2 network anyway.
[correction - technically, owned by Telef!nica, parent company of O2]

It really does sound like it is probably your phone. You need to try a full reset of the phone I'm afraid. Back it up FULLY to iCloud/Google (IOS/Android respectively) and go for it.
