New scammy auction site 'Wellbid'

I think we have another of the scammy 'auction' sites around, I've started to be spammed by 'wellbid' who tell me I have registered an interest! (very amusing). The first came via an Amazon enquiry from a buyer- but I have others since, nothing personalised except my email address so these are bulk spam .

The link is below and it looks just like madbid and the others of that ilk- so beware and don't waste your money

actually doing some digging on this it appears not to be a new site at all, it's been around for a couple of years - but still as scammy as hell.

This has been around for ages. They have been running a TV advert for years where a girl with everything pink is bidding on something. Its then delivered and it turns out it is a set of rally car tires (complete with pink bow) because it turns out she is a rally car driver. I only know this advert off by heart as it seemed to be on TV on everything I watched as some point

I hadn't noticed them previously, but looking into them they have certainly been around for 3 or 4 years. Can't work out why they have started to spam me though.

Probably no real customers. Just fake ones.

Shame you didnt join you could have bought a Pixel XL worth £1058 for £2.62.
Since when was the XL worth £1058? Even CPW have it for £720 SIM free.

Under 5000 visitors to their website it seems. Ebay.co.uk have over 5 million.
ebay.com have over 20 million hits a day.

Struggling to find anything on the company, unlike UK companies they seem to have other companies registered as directors.

    Some other names: por1centimo, per1cent, za1cent, za1korunu, 10forintert, wellbid, za10groszy.

Some transfers of shares a few months back.

    Transfer of shares 13/09/2016
Transfer of shares HE57-Transfer of shares of private companies 13/09/2016
Alteration of officers and of their particulars 25/08/2016

    P & L (ADMINISTRATION) LIMITED Director
    P & L (N.D.) LIMITED Director
    P & L (SERVICES) LIMITED Secretary

A few notes on change of officers and their particulars over the years.

I had a look into the company. On their home page you'll see lots of auctions 'won' for small amounts, but they seem to bid in fractions of a penny, not even single pennies. Since their primary income is likely to be people paying for bids, making a bid a fraction of a penny artificially makes the 'sale' prices look artificially low. It was very hard to find out how much it costs to bid just by navigating their help; I found it necessary to google. Between about 2p and 4p to bid, depending on the size of the 'pack' that is bought. However, it seems that for many items you have to bid multiple bids at once, e.g. a 'bid x9' button.

As well as the cost of bidding, there are many people online who claim that they have won wellbid auctions but not received their product. http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/wellbid-co-uk-fraudsters-c672834.html Some of this appears to be a process by which winners must 'verify' their accounts which never gets completed.

There are also accusations of fake 'bot' accounts, e.g.: http://www.pennyauctionwatch.com/2013/04/is-wellbid-com-a-legit-penny-auction-23-items-active-now/
