I've just come across this reading challenge on Pinterest:

I can tick seven off. Although six were from the same book so probably don't all count!

Some would definitely get me out of my comfort zone and trying new things though.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    Hi

I subscribe to this thread so read daily but very rarely post. I love to see what the book of choice for other bookworms is.

I wasn't gonna set myself a challenge this year as the last year or so I've dwindled with the reading, mainly because with my m.e. and fibromyalgia, I get tired easily. I've started to alternate between a kindle and a paperback to give my eyes a rest as I'm sure being on computer in work and then on kindle at night isn't too good.

I've joined good reads although I'm still confused with all the books I've transported over from Amazon that I've bought. Some of them I've read a long time ago but I've still got about 80-100 to go. Oh dear. So the first thing I've done is decided is that I'm limiting (translate to read as: unless exceptionally cheap) the amount of books I buy. TBF I only go up to £2.99 but it will be 99p this year or nothing.

I've set a challenge of 50 books this year. Am up to four. I've read:

Balancing act by Joanna Trollope (never read hers before but a friend bought me the book for Christmas - it was a nice family sage set in a pottery business - made me think Cath Kidston when reading)

Year of saying yes by Shonda Rhimes (Producer behind Greys Anatomy - basically she spends a year saying yes to everything and what she learns along the way. Not bad but as it was 99p didn't mind too much).

Lizzie's Christmas Escape - by Christie Barlow (set at Christmas and what happens to a lady with 2 teenage kids when she is feeling a bit humdrum in her marriage and a handsome neighbour moves in - chic lit but not bad)

How to find love in a book shop by Victoria Henry (never read this author before either but it was a nice story. Emilie takes over her late father's bookshop after he dies, in a lovely quaint village that I've decided I'm moving to next week if I can find it on the map !!!:rotfl:)

Currently reading Hens United by Lucy Diamond - I'm sure I've read this but am going to have to get further in until something reminds me I have!

Inspired to add some books to read to my list from your posts. Keep them coming.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

Glad you enjoyed "His Bloody Project", Syman. I'm just over half way - I can't seem to get time to get a good run at it, just 10-15mins at a time. It is very good, so that's annoying.

I used a reading challenge last year, Ames; it got me trying things I'd usually avoid. I'm doing another this year.

Thanks for this. Will give it a go. Am reading Life After Life on Kindle at the mo which covers the book over 500 pages. Am a little fed up of it to be fair and hope I'm nearing the end.

  • I have just finished reading David Madison The Scholarship Boy by Dermot O'Hanlon. The title says it all really. It was not my usual type of reading material, but I enjoyed it none the less as it was such an easy read. It was more of a teenage read though.;)
  • Finished The Shadows in the Street - very good, 4 stars out of 5. Well written.
Have now started Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier) for one of my book groups.

That reading challenge - I was doing some of it with the same book group, and that's how I came to read The Interestings, as a book whose author shares my own initials. Glad I found it!

Just finished The Legacy of Lucy Harte. Verging on chick-lit, but ok.

I'll start In Order to Live, by Yeonmi Park tonight. It's our book group choice, about an escape from North Korea. Unfortunately, I read a book on the same topic in the summer, so I'm not relishing the thought.

Rebecca is one of my absolute faves. Let me know how you get on with it.

  • Syman - I think The Interestings is a bit of a Marmite book. Some of my friends loved it - others absolutely hated it and thought it was awful!
