lessonlearned wrote: »Indie......it hadn't occurred to me that I might have thyroid problems until I noticed my nails turning white. At first it was just one so I thought I had injured it, but now it's three of them. So I googled it and it flagged up thyroid issues.
It went on to list all of my other health niggles so yes I need to take myself off to the doctors and get tested. Years ago my mum suggested I Might have thyroid problems but I never bothered getting it checked.
It's amazing really how we just shrug off these minor niggles and put it down to tiredness or the aging process instead of investigating it properly.
All part of the general neglect that we women can be so guilty of, always too busy looking after our families to take prope care of ourselves. We are own worst enemy at times.
But hey that's what this thread is about. So upwards and onwards...
I don't really want to take thyroid meds if I can avoid it so I'm going to look at natural healing first and see how I go.
If you want to read up on thyroid issues further, can I suggest this book:-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Thyroid-How-Keep-Healthy-ebook/dp/B00AKF900G/ref=la_B0034P91BM_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1490555042&sr=1-1
He talks about some natural supplements you can take and what diet will help and also the shortcomings of some of the standard tests doctors do for thyroid issues.0 -
Thanks for that Indie. That's very thoughtful of you. I have just ordered it together with a recommended companion book about adrenal fatigue.
I have been gathering information from a number of websites and I have an information pack from my nutritionist which has helped me with IBS and fibromyalgia so I should have the tools to help myself. I know that thyroid issues are as complicated as they are common. Oddly enough my DILs mother is scheduled for surgery next week to remove hers after years of battling with problems. Hopefully I can avoid such extremes.
I think my recent dip has been due to the severe stress overload caused by the death of my father and the subsequent problems with my sister. Prior to that I was starting to get better but this has been quite a serious setback.
Anyway......the good news is I have finally overcome my last hurdle. I met with my sister And we scattered dads ashes. It's done, it's over. I've done my duty and now I can walk away.
The meeting with my sister went just as I thought it would, very polite and civilised but very strained. The relationship is dead. We were little better than strangers. A great pity but I'm not going to fret over it any more. If it means "divorcing" my sister then so be it.
Ke Sara .......
My lovely DS1 and DIL were very supportive. Afterwards they took me for a lovely drive around Derbyshire's finest beauty spots and we had a nice leisurely lunch, followed by a stroll in the sunshine and then afternoon tea.
They turned what could have been an awful time into a nice restful and very enjoyable day out. DS2 has been extra attentive too this evening. I am very lucky to have such thoughtful offspring, I have had a really lovely weekend.
I feel like I have now closed a chapter on nearly 11 years of worry and sadness. Time to move on.
I feel I can now finally build my new life.

Just coming out of lurkdom!
Indie, before you go off to m&s for measuring have a look at https://booborbust.com . There is also an interesting Facebook page. It's about how to measure yourself and how inaccurate most high street stores are with their measurements. Might be worth a try.0 -
Welcome treacle toes and thanks for the link0

Lessonlearned sending you a hug - I am an only child and would have loved to have a sister like you. It is her loss though she doesn't realise that. Maybe one day she will.0

Aww Grunnie, thanks for that. Feeling a bit low today so that's cheered me up a bit. I doubt she realises though, in her mind she's done nothing wrong.....hey ho.
I am just resting after my Physio session this morning then I'm going to tackle my wardrobe again. Time for another purge!!! :rotfl:0 -
Lessonlearned I wish you where my sister. Hopefully you can move on now and start to enjoy things once again.
sorry I cannot find who asked about the hair mouse. I use insette its the only one that does not irritate my scalp, it is so sensitive.
My bloods came back with a surprise I am B12 deficient and have started a booster session of injections. No improvement on the tiredness just yet. But the nurse said is was extremely low so will take a while.
Just had a leisurely soak and smothered myself in body butter.
Hugs to those that needed them x0 -

As a long term sufferer of Pernicious Anaemia I hope that the injections work well for you, but would just mention that it can take years to become B12 deficient and so improvement can take some people a long time too. I did really well for a short while and then for some reason my iron and folate dropped, this was a long time ago and it took the consultant by surprise, but it is much more well known now. I got back to normal life, full time work, dogs and OH to look after, lots of walking and hill walking etc
The condition is underestimated and you may well get lots of stupid comments about eating more meat, marmite and stuff, but just ignore them, people mostly associate the word anaemia with lack of iron:(
Get well soon. xThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

and even then the whole 'eat more meat' (or spinach) thing is wrong, particularly if you have a significant deficiency, which again takes time to recover from...
I generally find it best not to attempt to explain my health problems, just say I'm being treated and doing what I'm told (not necessarily true) as there's always someone whose next door neighbour's best friend's babysitter's granny's neice tried some amazing diet/took a magic pill and was magically cured...0 -
Hello Ladies,
Indie, I would not take Wayne back no matter what. Each time I talk to him, it just reminds me of why he could never be worth taking back. If he was the only man that wanted me, I would still prefer to be single. There is simply some behaviours that are unforgivable.I am getting a £26 refund from Virgin trains as apparently the train was delayed that I should have travelled on to Birmingham and the refund is automatically generated if the train is significantly delayed. A welcome surprise. As I have been ill and I do not earn enough to qualify for SSP, then doing the deep clean will be welcome extra hours. In fact I will also be working 10am to 3pm on Thursday and Friday as well now.
I need the money and I need the job satisfaction even more.
I went to Karaoke last night and it was a complete waste of my valuable time. The DJ did not seem to be able to figure out how to operate his own Karaoke equipment, so no one could sing. He played music, but most of it was not much to my liking. I got so bored in the end, I went home at 9.30pm. I was recognised from being on The Chase by 2 men in the pub. I was a bit embarrassed as it is so long ago now. I was polite, but I did not really want to talk to either of the men.0
