Good to hear you're both feeling better indie and LL.:)
Glad you've got a house full of men indie!:rotfl:Chatting with chanie over the weekend, it does make you feel better to get things done around the house. Even simple things like a bit of decluttering can help. 'Putting your house in order' isn't an idiom for nothing.
I liked the John Soane museum too. It's a fascinating place although I think some refurbishment may have been completed since I was there a couple of years ago. It's such an eclectic collection. I think my favourite bit was the Hogarth Rake's Progress, not just the paintings themselves but the way they were displayed on the false walls.
What colour are you fancying for your hair LL? I'm all in agreement as I know exactly what it's like to look washed out in the winter months. At the moment I'm still just wearing just a bit of eye make up and lippy as I still have a tiny bit of colour. It won't be long before I need the tinted moisturiser/foundation though.
I'm going to take your advice and book a facial indie. I've got 4 Groupons at the moment. They don't run out until the end of the year but that'll soon come round.
I've got a pleasant week coming up with a short visit to Wales at the end of the week, lunch with old friends on Wednesday and dancing planned for tomorrow.
It's wet and miserable here.:(0 -
Very sore and stiff today. My Physio cancelled on me on Friday and I am In desperate need of a massage. So will try and get booked in somewhere this week.
Just had a nice long soak in the bath, with Epsom salts and then gave my legs a mini massage with some oil I bought on holiday. I smell a bit medicinal but as I’m not going anywhere in particular it doesn’t really matter.
I think the damp isn’t helping. Perhaps I should think about moving to a better climate. :rotfl: I am very lucky because I will be escaping the worst of the winter this year. The sun and warmth do help.
Re my hair I think I will be looking at various shades caramel blonde highlights and lowlights with maybe just a little bit of red/strawberry blonde to add warmth.
I wore a navy sweater yesterday and with my white hair it did look a bit “stark”. I think I will try and buy some new sweaters once my hair is done and I can work out which colours will suit. Maybe move away from the blue shades for winter and add some warm colours to my wardrobe.
Maman. Your museum trip sounds lovely. I really must make more of an effort and start visiting more more museums and country houses.
I loved the Guggenheim in Bilbao as much for the building itself as the art. I met a charming gentlemen on board. He was 90 and a retired architect. He was delightful, super intelligent and very charming. Very “old school”. I asked if he had gone ashore to visit the Guggenheim and his face just lit up. We had quite a few interesting talks about architecture and art after that over lunch. He was a fascinating man, still handsome and elegant, he must have been a real stunner in his day. I enjoyed picking his brains. I told him about my dream to build my own house and he told me I definitely should do it.
Maybe one day. :rotfl:
Sorry if I rabbit on about my holiday but Heres another observation about ageing well from my people watching on board.
Apart from the obvious correlation between obesity and poor mobility and ill health I have noticed that the people who age well are the ones who have a passion for life and who maintain an interest in intellectual life.
J1 is 75 but you would never have guessed. I would have pegged him at early 60s. He is a retired engineer, very intelligent and still with an engineers curiosity. In fact I noticed he was both extremely observant and an absolute perfectionist, with an engineers eye for detail and the ability to notice flaws and imperfections. Unnerving!!! I made him laugh when I said he would never have looked at me twice if I had still had my birthmark because it was a flaw that would have offended his engineers eye for perfection. He had the grace to laugh and admit it.
All the people who I felt had aged well and who were still healthy and vigourous all seemed to be both passionate about life and interested in everything. My 90year old architect friend could have easily passed for early 70s.
I think there is a lesson here for all of us. One to include in our fabbing.......
So ladies, if we want to age well and remain healthy and vigourous into our old age we need to keep dancing and singing, maintaining our interest in art and fashion, and keep indulging our passions. We need to remain enthusiastic about everything and continue to engage in the things that we care about and which make us happy. We need to look after our brains as well as our bodies and faces.
It’s certainly something I am going to work on.0 -
Hello Ladies,
I went Karaoke last night and had a really good evening even though there was only 10 of us in the pub. I sang I've Got You Babe with the DJ for the 1st time. It is the reggae version of the Sonny and Cher song.
I got quite bad chest pains while I was there, but I just took 4 painkillers and I was soon feeling okay. Unfortunately I woke up this morning with a horrible hacking cough, which set off pains in my chest and my throat felt quite raw. Benylin and Lemsip Max caplets are doing the job at keeping my symptoms under control.
I am off to Karaoke again tomorrow night.0 -
Oh dear, SUgarbaby, you are struggling but good for you keeping up the singing.
I love the reggae version of I Got You Babe.
I too have started dancing every day but so far only round the house. I can only manage a short session at the moment but hoping to build up my stamina so I can keep up with a dance class. I really couldn’t manage an hour or so at the moment.
I just dig out a couple of favourite CDs and away I go. Tonight’s was Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits. Well my BIL always says I remind him of Stevie Nicks......:rotfl:
I have also been for two short walks today. The extra activity seems to be loosening my leg muscles, the pain is much easier tonight. Just need to try and sort out my shoulders now.0 -
I had thought I was recovering ok from my human bobsleigh impersonation of last weekend and had been mainly pain-free all weekend but today woke up with pain in my back and have had it all day
I can't decide if it is after effects of 13,000+ steps around Nottingham on Saturday, 3+ hours in the car travelling home or being back in our bed after a softer hotel mattress...anyeay I have resorted back to the co-codamol and am tucked up in bed with a hot chocolate, my book and the cat, feeling very sorry for myself

Agree with you there. In fact, I might adopt that as my mantra for 2018.
I’m off work today, as it’s half term, I was going to take the children out for the day, but I’m tired, so I think other then popping out to run some errands, we’ll just have a nice chilled day.
Maman I bought one of those Aldi candles you mentioned up thread. I’d been meaning to check them out, but kept forgetting and they had a huge pallet by the door, so I grabbed one. I can’t say I’m hugely impressed, but them I’m not really into candles. For £4, its a nice treat. We’ve just had a Yankee candle shop open in town, so I may check them out.0 -
Sorry to hear you're feeling rough floss. Hope you start to feel better very soon.:)
I only liked one 'flavour' of those candles chanie. That was the No.1 Lime, Basil and Mandarin. The others were far too sweet for me. I suppose we all like different things. It's like the Mango scented hand cream I'm using up on my feet, much too fruity for me.
I'm sure you'll have a good day at home especially as DS can enjoy playing in his 'new' bedroom.:)
Nothing much going on here. Will go dancing tonight (not round the sitting room though LL) so although I've done all the basics of fabbing this morning I'll dress up a bit tonight.
Dryish but dull here.:(0 -

I bought that one too.
I hope my post didn’t offend you maman. What, I meant was that I dont really ‘get’ candles. People really rave about Jo Malone candles, but I don’t understand what is so special about a candle. I’m not dissatisfied with my £4 Aldi one, but I’m probably not cultured enough for them😁. I’ve heard that TK Maxx can be good for candles, in case anyone is stuck for Xmas gift ideas.
Sainsburys are doing another 25% off clothing this week, in case anyone is interested. I’m going to grab some undies for the children.0 -
Not offended at all chanie and it's nothing to do with being cultured! We all have different tastes otherwise we'd be clones and that would be very boring indeed!:D0

So interesting to hear all about your hols (and your 'two Johns'!) LL! I hope that you are all recovered now from your IBS flare up and are taking it easy, just planning some future fabbing maybe
Sugarbaby, I hope you too are on the road to recovery, it sounds like you've been through a lot recently with your health issues and having to deal with the council. It's always so lovely to hear about your enjoyment of things, from singing to theatre to cinema.
Sorry for a long absence from here; first we took the boys on holiday, then they both picked up a sickness bug from there, then passed it on to OH and myself! It feels like all I do in the evenings is get children to bed, then do the housework, then collapse into bed. If I'm lucky I'll only get one or two night wake ups..... feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything really, I have a 'to do' list as long as my arm and don't get much taken off it even though I don't go out to work! First thing to tackle is my weight, which is not going down
On a brighter note, the boys will be starting preschool one morning a week next week, and I am very much looking forward to a couple of hours of 'me time'!! I mean I will probably just get some cleaning done and perhaps go to the supermarket, but even so.....! If all goes well we'll increase it to two mornings after Christmas, I would like to do three but as we have to pay for it for another year, I think two is about the limit for now.
Been following the M&S comments with interest, they used to be great for basics for my work wardrobe, but even those (plain T shirts, trousers etc) now look frumpy and/ or are in odd colours! Our local Pr!mark isn't very big and I don't tend to get a lot of clothes from there, I'll have to venture back on eb@y to see if I can find some bargains, I'd like a couple of new tops.
By the way LL I completely agree with your observations from your hols; it really helps to have a passion for something, regardless of what it is, and usually has the added benefit of making friends that way too. Mine used to be dancing, hopefully will be again once the boys are a bit older.....
I'm off to tackle the to do list - does feel like a mountainous task - but I think once I've eaten the first bite of the elephant (or at least made a better list of how much elephant there is to eat!!) things will be easier! Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j0
