O/S Daily Sunday 1 January 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Happy New Year, wishing you all health, wealth and happiness x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now daylight - although it was still dark here at 7.50am - still damp and dirty everywhere but not raining at the moment. Milder night last night no frost for 2 nights here.
DH and myself up and enjoying first cuppas of the day. Boys still in their pits, will leave them as we're all back to work/college on Tuesday.
Dinner last night ended up being help yourself, cheese, biscuits, pate, toast etc - we had a late lunch so didn't eat until gone 7pm, today we'll be having roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - we will be eating at the table too.
Today will be a chill day as both DH and myself worked yesterday, we'll be going to visit DH's grandad and both sets of parents tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
Happy New Year _party_
snoozer I hope you're feeling better xx
The new telly is set up in the lounge. Guess what – everything is exactly the same as before! I don't see what we've gained, but I do see how much it's cost for things to remain the same (plus he's gone and taken out the useless warranty, which will be cancelled ASAP). Actually, there is one difference and it's very annoying, you can't program the Virgin remote to the telly because it doesn't list the model number, so you have to use two remotes – one for the tivo box and the other for the volume.
LameWolf I can now set up a telly and DVD player for the chickens. Scampi watched Happy Feet yesterday – it wasn't just on, he actually watched it, lol. He was fascinated. I think the chickens might enjoy it too, what do you think?

I was up at 5am. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet, I've only heard two cars go past. And two men who were obviously on their way home from a party, singing – not too loud but very out of tune :rotfl: I remember the same from last year, I wonder if it's the same people, lol.
No plans for today, except for eating, lol. There's a bottle of wine on the worktop, it's been there since Boxing Day. It's about two-thirds full. I really hate waste so the right thing to do would be to drink it this afternoon, don't you think? Then I can put the bottle in the green bin. I'll have reduced waste and recycled in one fell swoop *shines halo*

tru - a very definite yes to drinking the wine this afternoon, and then getting the bottle into the recycling, your halo is shining, I can see it from here! lol

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Happy New Year with health and happiness one and all.
Overnight rain for us, the first rain in ages. Now dark and miserable but at least the rain has stopped.
I can't get myself moving this morning, even though I have been up since silly o'clock. I have had my head in my book just breaking off for more coffees.
I have a small gammon joint out ready to cook for lunch with assorted veg and new potatoes. I made a chicken curry for last night and still a bit of that is left so that will do for tonight. We are still wading through the Xmas goodie mountain for desserts (and I am still avoiding the scales!!)
I think I shall take all the decs down this afternoon but I know I shall be sorry when everywhere looks sad and drab without all the twinkling lights etc.
Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Esp LAINEY and her DM and all the other poorlies and sad xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning and Happy New Year!
Been up and fed the cat and brought my breakfast back to bed. He's now on my windowsill looking out...he wants me to get up again to let him out.
Nothing much on today...will go down to stay with my dad later , so my mum can go to church. Youngest DD in bed and eldest should be back from Edinburgh early afternoon.
Youngest and I and her boyfriend had nice Chinese last night and watched TV. Later I watched The lady in the van, which I enjoyed. Was about 11.30 when it finished and contemplated staying up but sleepiness won, and I went to bed. Heard a few fireworks as I was drifting off.
One of my 'aims' for New Year is to post more rather than just reading...I often don't feel I have anything interesting to say!
Have a nice day everyone0 -
Morning everyone,
Happy New Year to you all, here's to drinking wine in the afternoon and still keeping our halos in place
We had a very quiet NYE and even went to bed before the chimes, I was falling asleep on the sofa anyway and had woken up cold, mind did hear all the fireworks start up and said a sleepy HNY to beloved.
Spent most of yesterday with DM, my SIL and two nieces visited as well so was good to catch up with those guys but Mum was v tired and dozed most of the time, they do seem to have the pain under control as she said wasn't in any discomfort.
Her eldest brother is going over this morning so we will wait until this afternoon to visit, I picked up a nice piece of brisket yesterday so will get that in the SC in a minute so it's ready for when we get home tonight.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Hi folks and HNY
I too lurk and don't post often so should really remedy that.
Didn't quite stay up until midnight but heard lots of fireworks and bells earlier on.
Off for a 6 mile walk today and then a gathering of 14 for a pub lunch. My roast beef has been pre ordered so I'm looking forward to that.
Must go and get ready. Rain expected!0 -
Morning All
HAPPY NEW YEAR! May you have all the love, peace and happiness you wish for.
Lovely and bright here after yesterday's rain, a lot colder though - the lid of the food waste bin was frozen shut!
tru - Perhaps you could put Mr tru out with the hens and his new TV? Enjoy that wine and well done on the recycling!
Don't worry dp1, I don't have anything interesting to say but no-one seems to mind.
Had an upset tummy yesterday, I think it was the cream I had with scones the day before. Feel loads better today so a walk is on the cards, especially with it being a nice day. Had toast for breakfast that I managed to burn, my cooking skills have really gone to pot!
It was very quiet here last night apart from a few fireworks, the next door neighbours have just gone to bed, they were still partying when I got up at 6. I went to bed and read for ages but still didn't manage to get to midnight.
Hope you all have a good day, thinking of you Lainey and Coxy. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone and happy new year too.
It's very cold and frosty here, car is covered in it though it should be thawed very soon.
I couldn't stay up but managed to wake up just before the bells. My DM was still awake so we shared hugs and kisses. Then the fireworks began all over the west end so I stood at the window watching them until my feet got too cold. DM had a bad night and so is still fast asleep.
There's an afternoon do back home this afternoon so I'm aiming for that. I've packed all the excess food stuffs which DM doesn't want, it'll be going in the freezer when I get home.
Anyway, I hope that everyone has a great start to 2017 and it continues all year. Hugs to those having difficult times.
Arra' best!0 -
Morning all
Happy new year to everyone.
Another one who is boring here dp1, but I witter on regardless.
Tru, that sounds like a good idea!
There were fireworks round here from 5pm until 1am, I did feel sorry for the pet owners.
Not sure what I'm doing today, will see what my L&M says after his 2nd cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Happy New Year to you all.
We were in bed by 10 30 PM just managed to stay awake till midnight, no fireworks here very quiet and peaceful.
It's a real dreich morning, chucking it down, really dark. Usual Sunday brekkie will be getting my backside out of bed shortly to stand under our lovely hot shower. No plans for the day. I cooked a gammon joint yesterday, will slice it and have some for supper tonight, the rest will go in the freezer in portions.
I lit the fire yesterday, so I need to empty the ash can and relay it. I do not light the fire every day, I have been leaving the heating on till OH goes for his siesta, then turning it off, the house stays warm till the timer switches it back on at 4. 30.
I am hoping to delay my Aldi visit for at least 10 days, we have enough food in to last us. My saving mode starts here!!0
