Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2017

Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you don't mind me joining in? I've lurked for far too long and it's time I made my own contributions.
Today I will make do with sourcing all of our meals from the freezer/cupboards and also re-purposing a lovely antique bookcase into my craft store, it's huge and was full of books that were mainly reference so I've put them in the loft so that I can get to them when I need them.
Minimising today will be taking a bag of clothes I never wear to the CS.
Mending OH & DS's jeans, they have either broken zips or holes in if not both. A busy day for me.2024 Challenges

I made mincemeat flapjack last night and it is amazing
Even OH who initially was a bit skeptical loved it so thanks for the recipe VJs mum. I've put a link to it in the first post for anyone else who wants to try it although not entirely sure if the link is working. Someone please let me know if it isn't and I'll try and fix it.
While the oven was on last night, I also made baked potatoes for tonight's tea, I'm working so will take it with me and OH can heat his up in the micro. I've boiled some eggs this morning so will just need to make up egg mayo later to go in them.
I've been out for a run this morning along the beach front and back (all part of minimising me!) I'm absolutely loving where the new flat is, the beach is so close and there's also a lovely park/botanical gardens nearby.
Not much planned for today, got a doctors appointment then off to work. I'll take the recycling with me when I head out, I've found somewhere close(ish) to the flat to put it.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Hi all
Been watching for a while but had little time to contribute.
Lots of MMM going on as I have been moving from my house(which has been up for sale for 4 months)to my late Mums house.Brother doesn't want to move-so I have ,in my retirement, up-sized! Love it ,but lots to do.
Mum and I both suffered with siege mentality,so I have slowly been working my way through 2 exceedingly well stocked, larders, freezers and present drawers.Good fun and quite random at times.
The kitchen is now sorted and looks great and is such an efficient work space, good job as it is marmalade time. Did minimise loads of jars but was mindful of seasonal preserving!! Bleeping siege again, doh.
Loads from both houses to CS,recycling and local tip.
Motheaten (literally!) woolly jumpers have been felted ready for upcycling projects, sewing machine ready in newly created craft room-whoopy doo.
Sorry to say I could do with bad weather so I don't feel guilty about sitting still.
There is a basket of wool oddments by my chair so I can sit and knit in the evenings, its gradually going down. I knit several strands together on big needles to make squares for blankets, that shifts loads.
Some mending happens-as and when its needed, sewing tin is always handy. A Farrah's toffee tin holds a small amount of sewing things, rest is in the craft room.
Really really trying to not buy anything, happening up to a point but I think that all crafters are 'just in case' hoarders, not only that one craft leads to another, natural progression I think.
Oh I am so sorry to have rabbited on ,thank you for listening.

Have been unwell for a few days but recovering now.
Today I have done some minimizing of DVD's and empty cases!!
I will sell some when I've decluttered more.
Also threw away gift bottle bags that I had been keeping but looking at them again I will never use. DH receives bottles of wine at Christmas from customers and I always keep the bags and I had loads.
No mending has been done. Tried to fix, unsuccessfully, my shredder but managed to buy one with Amazon vouchers from doing surveys.0 -
Needed to go out for a few basics (cereal, bread, milk), but feeling a bit under the weather, so have resorted to a bit of making do.
Cereal - had porridge oats in the cupboard, so cooked up some nice porridge, served with a sprinkle of brown sugar and the last of a bag of stoned dates that I'd bought in Poundland a few weeks ago.
Bread - knocked up some soda bread with ingredients already to hand.
Milk - had some instant dried in, so made some up. It suffices.
Mending and minimising will have to wait until I have shaken off this bug.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Hello all,
Maryb and Silvasava I was offering the duvet for their catteries, not to be sold in the shop!
Our Night Shelter does not need it, I have put it on Gumtree and someone replied but when I sent my address they did not get back to me, I fear it might have to go to the landfill if I don't get any taker. What a darn shame.
More Minimising today, the two jackets that someone gave me to pass on to a Refugees Charity have gone just there, together with an armful of coat hangers. This charity is starting a shop now so they need all they can get to start.
Making do with leftover soup for lunch and no Mending (so far). Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Caterina,
Could you make use of it as a mattress topper?

Started today by minimising the fruit bowl!
Had YS lemons that were looking quite sad so decided to make a lemon drizzle cake. Recipe called for baking powder, but I had none.. quick google and made my own with bicarb and cream of tartar (What did we do before google?? Yes, ask your mam or nan!)
The lemon rinds are now in the freezer ready for the next batch of compost heap jelly and most of the cake will go there too until we have guests.
Have poached some plums which we will have tonight, possibly with a bit of cake. Made shortbread to cook while the oven was on.
Tonight's tea will be a spag bol using soya mince and grated carrots to eke out the mince.
I have also minimised a bag full of old paper work from work now I no longer need it:T
Nothing mended, but will carry on cross stitching later.
Hugs and get well soon wishes to all the poorlies.
Pip

Caterina,
Could you make use of it as a mattress topper?
mrss
I could have, but I have just bought myself the loveliest, softest woolen mattress topper, the idea is that I am letting go of artificial fibres and materials in favour of natural ones.
My DS might want it though, so not all is lost! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
