Good morning Arthur Ear and welcome to the forums.

Happy new year everyone and thank you very much for the excellent advice and help you've posted whilst I've been off.

I have to agree here, this looks like the standing charge.

We should have left some information when the meters were installed to help you get used to them and understand what they do, how they work and what the different settings mean.

We do actually have a specific team here that deal with these meters and they'll be more than happy to confirm anything you're a bit unsure about.

I can always get you in touch if you'd like me to, it's no problem :)

    Thank you

  • Hi Helena,

the guy that fitted the meter was great, he asked if I wanted to know anything. Where I did have a bit of a problem....(for f/b purposes), was with the guy on the phone when I arranged the swap - he flew through everything lightening fast and I could hardly hear him. I asked him a few times to repeat himself but that get's embarrassing after a while. One thing I wanted confirming on the phone, from something I'd read online, was that the meter swap doesn't affect how much my electricity costs. I'm not sure that I was paying that much standing charge with the old meter. Not that there's a massive difference. Anyway, it sounds like I need to see about changing tariff before worrying about anything else.

Before seeing your post, I had actually come to the conclusion that the debt recovery was for the £20 emergency credit.....the old meter was only £5 and I'd eaten into that.

Many thanks for the help all!!

Good morning Arthur Ear and thank you for the reply.

£15 emergency credit per fuel for dual fuel customers if you forget to top up - or £20 buffer credit for single electricity.

You’ll be able to tell if you’re using your emergency credit by checking your SED. If you’ve got an icon on the screen that says “EMERGENCY CREDIT” next to an exclamation mark and the initials “EC” you’re using your emergency credit.

If it just says “EMERGENCY CREDIT” without the exclamation mark and “EC” then that means you’re not using it, but you have some available to use.

I think it may be a good idea to have a word with us, we have a smart team, I understand that they didn't help so well last time, so let me know if you need me.

    Thank you

  • Just looking at my account on the Eon website and my standing charge is set at 16.422p a day. I still don't know what the £1.14 a day debt recovery is for but will visit CAB and see if they can get to the bottom of it. I'm planning where to go on holiday when I get my refund, lol.
