B&Q repair of faulty oven

Good Day

Do I have any rights. My oven has packed in on the 29th December I contacted B&Q who told me to contact Cooke & Lewis they were quite happy to replace oven, they referred me back to B&Q to deal with this. The store manager said it would have to send a Repair man out first and the earliest he could get someone to us would be 5th of January. We are on holidays and my son is working and unable to get off work. We are left over New Year with no oven, I had family attending for new year meal. I contacted Cooke & Lewis again and they said it was the store who makes the decision not them. My husband has cancer so we use the oven a lot for cooking healthy meals. Do I have any rights for having to wait and occurring the cost of eating out?
Appreciate your response

When did you purchase the oven?
  • It was purchased from our local B&Q which has since closed down. So I am liaising with there nearest store They have 45 day return policy. It was purchased Feb 2016.
Guarantee is with Cooke & Lewis. I have 2 years. B&Q tell me it is for parts and labour

A week's wait for an engineer, especially given the time of year, seems quite reasonable. Unfortunately you have no right to claim for the additional costs of eating out. Can you use the hob? Do you have a microwave or a slow cooker you could use?

Just giving the time of year to pack in. It has ruined my plans for New Year's Day

There's not much that can't be cooked in other ways than in an oven and if you have anything that really needs the oven could you just asks relatives, friends and or neighbours for some help? It's only a disaster if you let it be.

Our whole street lost power last year on Easter Sunday when everyone was cooking their roast dinners, everyone in the street except myself and one other person have electric ovens so couldn't cook, we arranged it all between us what would be cooked where and who would share food and the whole street of 11 houses had their roasts in some fashion. Luckily three others also have gas hobs and one guy fired up his bbq to help with veg and sides.

If you have a facebook account, then a quick plea on a local group will sort you out with an oven to borrow or buy, or even someone to lend you theirs.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It does need putting in to perspective though.

    I cooked a 3 course Christmas dinner for 6 people and I don't own a hob,
Never have. The only thing I would use a hob for is to fry eggs.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
