Thank you everyone for your lovely messages. We had a wonderful day with family and close friends. My uni friends came so I was able to have a few days beforehand with them which was fab. Due to the geography of our various homes, we don’t get many opportunities to meet up, so really appreciate the times when we can. As the years go by, it’s precious too, to see our children get on so well.
It’s been a very busy few weeks since the wedding with juggling both jobs. DD4 has been busy with her exams and is now awaiting her results in August. Getting her through uni is now our biggest financial challenge ( after the mortgage) so am plodding on with both jobs for the minute so that I can put aside as much as possible for her.
DH has very kindly organised a mini digger that has been able to do more at the allotment than I could do in weeks. I now have a blank canvas. The greenhouses were cleared and now have tomato plants taking over!! I do want to plan the allotment carefully so as to grow as much as possible
Other than that, I want to crack on with getting rid of the last of the debt. Overpayments took a bit of a backseat while I was paying towards the wedding but I really want to get them gone for good.

Love that you now have a blank canvas at the allotments and that your OH provided practical support. Good luck with the finances as ever.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

That sounds full-on but all oh-so-constructive! Amazing to have a blank canvas to work on, and all the work you've put in, in the past, will mean you are in a good place to make the right choices for your land: what grows well in your soil, what the microclimates are, what varieties you favour and what you'd like to try, etc, etc. And how nice that it's a joint project for you two as a couple, even if that means you pointing out where the digger needs to go next! Have a blessed summer - I think you will.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Lovely to have an update from you HSL. How nice you got to catch up with old friends.
Yes, supporting student offspring thru Uni when they dont get enough to live on themselves can be a challenge. I certainly wish Id thought about it sooner.
How exciting to have a clean slate with the allotment.

Made it to the end of term and have had a week or so off so far. I don’t seem to have done very much other than clear and clean thus far. I have gone through cupboards that have been in a time warp for the last decade. Cupboards that I didn’t have time or energy to go through but have done now. DH is on a shelving mission now so that we can store things in such a way that they can be easily found. Two van loads have gone to the tip!
Moneywise I have got to refocus. I feel as if the wedding slightly distracted me from the debt slaying although we tried to be as economical as possible. Coupled with the looming student costs, I am trying to spend as little as possible. Payday for Job 1 was last Thursday. Direct debits have gone out as has a £303 bill for the car’s MOT. Since this is a necessity as we are so rural, it makes the sting of it not so bad but £300 is still a big chunk.
I have downloaded Plum as I saw it on an online post somewhere. I have set it to save £5 each week from my Job 2 wages. I just want to see if I can save a bit more. There was an option to do the 365 day savings challenge but that seemed to need to pay to access that part. I have tried to do that in cash before but since I rarely use cash, I tend to lose focus as soon as the coppers around the house have been used. It did make me thing that an online savings that I do myself each day could be a better way to make that savings challenge work for me!
Hoping to get some blackberry picking done today or tomorrow. We picked some last night from the allotment hedgerow and made some blackberry muffins as DSS likes these. I have never seen blackberries out this early before. They have been ripe for about 3 weeks here.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.
