If DD1 already has the MS genes(or whatever it takes), I wonder whether her freezer might appreciate some of Mum's cake, handily sliced up for convenient defrosting?
Mind you if you see things she likes on offer, you could treat her. I used to buy my kids their favourites when they were at Uni - then when they finished we had a cupboard full as I'd obviously been too enthusiastic! I think I still have stir fry sauces as DD went off them, and DS2 is still working his way through his tubs of hot chocolate. I'm sure you'll be a more sensible Mum than I am!I think mine is hereditary as my Mum always bought me Walnut Whips, which are nice as a treat but what I really wanted was ordinary time at home.
Hedgehog cake sounds fun... I don't expect it lasted long either.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Honeysuckle - Please don't go beating yourself up for not providing a HM cake for DD's birthday.
With her being DD5, I'm guessing she's relatively young? Her classmates won't care and it's doubtful she'll remember. As a parent I adore Autumn term as it's so long with only a week to break it up between the new academic year starting and Christmas. As a teacher I'm sure I'd have a different view.
For your daughter at Uni what about making one of your cakes into loaf tin shape and a more 'hardy' one. Easy to slice and freeze.
Have a good half term, my area isn't off until the week after and that's when my 17yo DS is going on his first ever hol without parents. :eek:0 -
Thank you Spendless and Cherryfudge. I hadn't thought of slicing and freezing but what a good idea. All of the taste and no waste if it doesn't get eaten quickly enough!
The hedgehog cake did go quickly, especially this morning when DS1 was alone in the house:D
I also love the Autumn term. It is the best term of the year with Autumn, Bonfire night and Christmas!:)paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

My Mum always used to make and freeze cakes for us (and still does!) and they were always relished with delight! They never stayed in the freezer that long though...
:o
When I was at uni, she also used to make big pasta bakes, lasagnes or casseroles, bring them up to me and and freeze them in some plastic takeaway tubs. It was always such a delight to take out a home cooked 'ready meal' made by Mum and tuck into that when I was far away and missing home.I was a good 4 hour drive from home so it really did make me feel closer.
Another vote for Autumn half term being the best. I think it's anticipation for Christmas too.Our half term is not until next week here though, so I have another week of work to get through.
Hope you have a wonderful week HSL2 and get to recharge your batteries a little xxMortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,706.16

Thank you MeandO.:) I hadn't thought of that idea. It would certainly take away the worry of whether she is eating properly. She can make pancakes but I'm not convinced about how much cooking she is doing, but a few trays of lasagne would travel easily and give her a homemade ready meal. Thanks for that...off to get some mince and get cooking!paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

My kids are 17 & 14 and I’ve never made them a birthday cake! Baking is not my strength sadly.
It’s always been a Tesco caterpillar cake. :rotfl:0 -

Made it to DD1's place. I timed the journey and it is 4 hours door to door. I have all the children but DS1 with me, so we are staying overnight in a travelodge and maximising our time with DD1 as she has Wednesdays without lectures.
Last night, DD2 and I made an extra lasagne mix and put it into the foil takeaway type cases ready to go into the freezer. We made a carrot cake and have brought the icing sugar and marscapone with us so we can mix up the icing and construct the cakepaydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.
