Great news on the refund. I did speculate if you would have a 3rd unexpected source of money to come to you, woohoo. That 1st window loan is going to be gone before you know it, even if there are 700 days in January to get through first!
Well done to DD1 starting a job. Realise things aren't as she'd hoped they'd be, but things have a way of working out even if it's not along the first path you anticipated.
If my son hadn't got rubbish results in sixth form (something I was not best pleased about at the time) he wouldn't have been put on a foundation year at Uni and would be graduating this Spring. Now, I'm hugely relieved he isn't and has another year to go.5 -
Great news about the unexpected cheque 🥳 Also great news about DD1’s job success 🥳 As you say it will give her something to be going on with in the meantime, gaining both experience and money.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

Well done to your DD - as @Spendless says, so often when plans don't go as we hope, there is another way forward - and often that opens up wider horizons. It's been the case with all three of my children in their transitions through school/Uni/work. I hope she gets to pursue her studies some day, though.
Excellent that you are getting a refund, too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Delighted to hear your good news. I do hope you can get back to a improved sleeping pattern. Please don't think I'm being patronizing but I know only too well how difficult it is to get decent sleep! I often guess it is you posting.
So glad about the positive news...a welcome boost. X4 -
Thank you Spendless, SA, Sarahwithlove, Cherryfudge, SH & Janb5. Thank you for all your good wishes for DD1. She had her induction day today and starts her first shift tomorrow.
Spendless- that is so funny. I do recall you wondered if a third amount of money would come in. I’m still stunned about this repayment of what I’d had to pay out. Will look forward to the cheque arriving in the post shortly!
Jan- I would love to get a full night’s sleep! I wonder if one gets into a bad sleep pattern because I seem to go to sleep but then consistently wake between 2.30 and 3am😒. From tomorrow I will need to get up earlier as DD1’s shift is an early start and there are no buses available for her to be able to get to work so I’ll be driving her there. Perhaps the early starts will kick start my body clock somehow!
Its been busy at work - there was a break in the weather today so got outside for half an hour which made a huge difference.
I’ve enjoyed some homemade lentil and bacon soup for tea which was most warming and flavoursome! I think I could happily live off that all winter if I was just catering for myself!!
Payday for my main job is on Friday so hoping to take some time tomorrow - well later today😏- to go through where every penny is going.

Hi HSL from a fellow insomniac !
I agree with you about the soup. I have a huge elderly aluminium soup pan and it makes a massive vat of soup.
I expect you use vegetables from the allotment.
I'm still busy listing my ex's books on Ebay. Sales are slow and steady and I'll be glad to get the space back! I'm hopefully being jabbed in the next 14 days. Cant wait!

Thank you Janb5. Hope the book sales are progressing. Sounds like you have quite a library to go through. Are books easy to sell on EBay ?
I was up bright and early today as DD1 started her first proper shift at 6am. I had been quite worried about oversleeping so had one of those nights where I woke up every hour or so, blearily glanced at the clock and slept patchily. Hey ho, a5 least she was at work on time and I took advantage of being in town that early and got the weekly shop at Mr T’s done. It’s a good time to go! The shelves are all full and I only saw one other customer the entire way round.
Pay day today from job no 1. It has come in £30 more than I thought. Today is the first proper payday since the pay increase ( gets agreed in Sept and usually applied in Nov except ours was late this year and it got applied last pay day so wasn’t quite sure what the new monthly pay figure would be). I’ve ended up playing around with figures, perhaps not the best thing to do when I’m so tired! Anyway I have increased my savings from £9 to £30 this month which I had already planned. I had thought that since I have been used to budgeting on my salary from last year, I may as well sweep the increase into savings. I did this last year which is why £9 was moved to savings each month, but have now increased that to £30. Hopefully the savings can build up a little more quickly.
I intend to use the council tax money from this month ( pay over 10 months so this month is free) to make an overpayment on the Window loan which should leave £79 left to pay. As soon as the cheque comes in from the A*, I can clear that🥳 which means that it will be clear a little sooner than I’d hoped, which in turn means that I can start to overpay the second window loan with next month’s council tax money as well as redirecting the usual money from the first window loan, if that makes any sense.
I’ve had an email offer come in today for 10 packets of seeds for £10, which I am thinking about. It’s a good deal in seed terms but want to be doubly certain with my budgeting figures before committing to an order.
Youngest DD has requested pancakes for breakfast so must get on with it!🥞
