Car needs new water pump, will Vauxhall believe me ?

Hi

In august I bought an approved used Vauxhall Corsa 2015 plate. The vehicle was only a year old with 19,000 miles on the clock. It was an ex-rental, so its first 19,000 miles were probably very hard. The car has been fine. But, for the last week or so, at all times there is a high pitched whine coming from the water pump, its not very loud, and you do have to listen for it. But it is there.

Having done my own research, and getting an opinion of a mechanic, it is 100% the water pump starting to malfunction. Which if fails, can be very bad news. The car still has 2 years warranty left, so I was going to call my dealership and book it in to get checked out.

I have a feeling that they will not fix it though, or even take my word that its the water pump. As the sound is quite quiet, but is there. Thus leaving me to drive around until it fails, causing overheating. I'd be scared they would then void the warranty due to driving the car to destruction.

Does anyone have any experience with Vauxhall/Peter Vardy's warranty repairs, and if I could just tell them its the water pump, I just get the feeling they won't even bother as its not an "in your face" noise.

Thanks

I take it the car had two services before you bought it if you're going the warranty route.

On the Corsa forum, all signs point to water pump, as it's a common fault with Corsa D & E that have been driven hard. Its nowhere near as bad as a slipping belt. Just a high pitched consistent whine at idle (can't tell when driving). Never stops, whether its hot or cold. I had a family friend who was a mechanic to look at it, and he agreed it is the water pump.

Of course I'm going to scour the net and try find out what it is. For piece of mind and a starting point.

According to the service book, its first and only service was at 19.004 miles, just before I purchased it. That service was from Peter Vardy and checked down as an Interim service. Whether Europcar, the first owners, have their own servicing plan and schedule, I don't know.

I know 19,000 miles is far too long for a first service (if thats what it was) but that's obviously out of my control.

Well hopefully they honour your warranty as they sold you the car but effectively you bought a car without one.

If it really is the waterpump bearing, then it'll just get louder and louder until it can't be ignored. It's very unlikely to collapse totally without giving you PLENTY of audible notice.

If you take it to the dealer now, and they don't accept there's a problem, then just ask them to make a note for when it DOES get louder.

I would like to think so, as I was specifically told by the salesman that the car has 2 years warranty remaining. To then turn around and say its void because its not been serviced enough, would be very unfair/misselling ?

The dealership will welcome the warranty work, they just claim off the warranty company so will be up for it. They might say it's a common thing and just get it done.

They'll welcome the work either way, if the warranty company won't pay it'll be down to the OP to pay.
