Hello I'm after some advice please. On 28th Dec 2016 my children & I were due to fly to London City at 6.55 am however the flight was delayed due to fog at London City. The flight eventually took off at 11.05 am however when we arrived at London we were kept circling for approx 1/2 hour before being told that the visibility was too poor to land and we were being sent back to where we came from (IOM). We could not get rebooked onto another flight for that day & were re-booked onto a flight for the following morning. I was also booked onto a flight on the evening of the 28th from London City back to the IOM & this too had to be changed. However, at approx 5pm on the afternoon of the 28th Dec I received a call from BA saying they could get me on a flight to London City that evening if I wanted it. I accepted the flight on the 28th as I needed to get my children to their father. BA managed to also get me on the same plane we came out on on its return to the IOM which took some doing as I had very little time to come through arrivals then get through departures. I made it just as the gate was closing. My question is can I claim compensation ? I know the original delay was due to fog but surely the plane should not have taken off if the airline knew the destination airport was still fog bound ? Thank you.

It was a weather problem so no compensation due. I doubt they'd have been cleared to take off if there wasnt a chance of landing. Unfortunately the weather doesnt always do as expected or predicted.0

Agree with Leylandsunaddict.
An unfortunate weather delay. No compensation from the airline.
Well done to the BA staff for calling you with an alternative option and for also getting you back on the turnaround flight at LCY. I'm sure that they must have been very busy with lots of other passengers so to have sorted your unique issue out probably deserves some praise from you.0
