Contacted Sky via Live Chat today to cancel my subscription. Since I have a Now TV box, plus Netflix and Prime, I didn't feel the need to carry on paying out £20 plus per month for the odd couple of channels that I'd miss (Syfy, Universal and Dave), and the privilege of being able to record programs as you can watch most of them on catch-up anyway.

They asked why I was cancelling, so I told them I wanted to save money. They said they might be able to help, but I said I was on the basic package, so I didn't think there was much they could do, but he said he'd check anyway.

As I was out of contract (original deal was through Quidco in 2014), they offered me 75% off the cost of the Sky Original (basic) subscription for 10 months as long as I signed up for a new 12 month contract. I was very happy with this, so agreed.

I would say that it's important to go through either Live Chat or a phone call, because when I first looked at cancelling via the website, there were no discounts offered.
