Tightly fitted log burner
carefullycautious
I have recently visited a relative who has had a log burner (I'm not sure if it is dual fuel or just log)fitted tightly into the recess of the stone fireplace. It only sticks out a couple of inches at most and has no air gap around it at all.
Surely this is dangerous? Does anyone know whether I am right in my worry about this as there are young children in the household and I keep thinking it might explode.
I thought I would ask first whether this is usual?

It depends very much on the type of stove - Most free standing stoves require free space all round. The manufacturer will give a minimum distance in their installation guide.
For cassette stoves, these are set in to a wall, and any gaps are usually filled with a loose fill insulation (vermiculite or foamed glass).
As for "is it dangerous" - Unlikely as long as the surrounding walls are made of non-combustible materials such as brick, concrete, stone, or a suitable plaster. Plasterboard is not rated as non-combustible and shouldn't be used close to a stove. Wallpaper is likely to char, so should also be avoided within say 500mm above a stove and 300mm to the sides.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Thank you I have never heard of cassette stoves, I will have a look on line.
It is set into the fire grate and there is a solid stone fireplace around it. So I guess non combustible0 -
