LG Direct Drive washing machine nightmare

My washing machine has packed up, the problem is the motor. I phoned an independent repairer ho said if I had problems with an LG motor I had problems, and he suggested I go through the retailer.
I phoned LG. As far as I was aware, the machine was about 3 years old, and not under guarantee. Further into the conversation when they knew the problem, after I had said I couldn't find my receipt, they said there had been a lot of problems with the Direct Drive, so I would have to pay for an engineer to come out, but the part, and fitting the part would be free. Sounded like a good deal.
So far they have not charged me for the engineers visit. Nearly 3 weeks later and I am still waiting for the part. Will it ever come? It is a different company that their insurance uses for the repair, and I have to keep phoning this company, which in turn hassles LG to get their spares dept to phone me, but they never do.
Is there anything else I can do, or should I just buy a new one> I'm a bit worried about the initial payment going through, and having to buy a new machine on top? Does anyone else have experience of this particular machine?
Many thanks
Lydia

i wish you luck - mine has been a nightmare with over 10 visits from engineers, 2 complete new drums and lots of other parts - luckily when i bought it lg were so confident about reliability that they gave us a free 5 year extended warranty (bought it off the cheapest site on the internet so i know the warrenty costs weren't hidden somewhere else). lg stands for lifes good, not with two kids and no washer for a month!!!'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

I also have a LG machine, and I have had 2 problems.
Got free 5 year guarantee.
Drum beariungs went and motor went.
I DIDN'T shop around and went to a local retailer.
They are LG repair agents as well and haev their own engineers.
1st fault :
Phoned at 4.55 pm reported fault. Engineer arrived next morning with new part. Took machine away and repaired it. Brought it back and installed it same day - 3pm.
2nd Fault
Phined 9am, engineer out same day and repaired machine. Gave fault code and this enabled him to bring part.
Moral of story- cheaper isn't always better. Price on line was only £30 more, but what hassle if I had went that way.baldly going on...0 -

the problem wasnt that i had bought it online - i only mentioned that fact to show that my warrenty was indeed free - with my warrenty i had to contact lg direct who then got a local company (who are LG agents) to come out and fix it, who were on the whole very good. my problems arrived from the fact that ive had 2 complete new drums and assemblies, more bearings than you could shake a stick at, 2 new door seals, new powder dispenser and a new programme card - some of these parts aren't stock items even for LG.the guy that came out to fix it (and in the end we were on first name terms) told us the amount of these he has to fix. moral of story: i saved £150 buying online, i have the same warrenty and levels of service as you and LG machines are now a lot more reliable than these older ones that we have'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
I have an LG machine thats been brilliant. After only a few months it fell off the counter because of a seriously unbalanced load and ended up buckled and bent. We've had to buy a doorstop to wedge under one corner to stop it wobbling. Since then it's worked flawlessly for 3 years. I'd buy another one in a minute.

Sadly I'm never done telling people about LG, Samsung and a lot of other Asian manufacturers of appliances...
They look cheap upfront, great specs, fancy marketing tricks (which often don't work) but the aftersales is utterly, utterly deplorable as a general rule. Lack of information on spares, spares unavailable, long waiting times for spares... you name it and then, when you do get the bits, they cost a fortune!
Many repairers won't touch them for these reasons, they're too unreliable as brands. Some of the machines are okay, but I wouldn't rate them much more than just "okay".
LG have had a LOT of issues with laundry and a few with refrigeration and Samsung, don't even go there.
