Tiles behind a multi fuel burner

When we had our burner fitted 18 months ago we were told that we wouldn't need any tiles to go behind it. It has an open flue and is stand alone, i.e. no chimney.
However, this week I have burned fuel not wood and have noticed the plaster behind the burner has a crack in it which has only appeared in line with me burning the fuel rather than wood.
I am thinking that we need some tiles to help to protect this in future but do they have to be a special sort or fitted by a HETAS engineer?

No surprise at all that the plaster has cracked. Decent installers don't use it for that very reason!
Tiles don't need to be anything special - they'll have been a lot hotter than the stove will get when they were made in the first place. And you can do them yourself - probably make a better job than the fitter who plastered the recess!0 -
Thanks Greenfires. There is no recess. Its just a fire in front of the normal household wall with a flue going up and secured at the top. Plenty of air around it. Im going to look at tiles and also a woodburning type glass. As it will have to be a feature on the wall (albeit behind the burner) I want something decent but can at least do that.0

Friends of ours have an Esse woodburning range cooker and they bought a big piece of Italian handmade glass to fit behind it - all oranges and reds almost like flames. Looks brilliant - but cost almost as much as the range!0

I settled on a Vlaze heat shield and am off to collect it tomorrow. Luckily a standard size will suffice otherwise it would be costing me a small fortune to have made!
I nearly went for an Ironheart in the kitchen but decided on a normal stove in the end.0
