    Afternoon.

I've been out on wee travels, to the dump, to the wine shop and to do a little food shopping. DM is insisting on eating old bread but be bought her a little baguette, she likes them. Also got a couple of scrummy Portuguese tarts.

New Year in Scotland has always been more important than Christmas. First footing still takes place where I live though I made last years' man wear a bunnet as he was verging on ginger. Nothing wrong with ginger except as a first foot!

Now I will finish off this book by Quentin Jardine, I'm really enjoying it but kept getting interrupted. DM is going back to bed soon for a snooze.
  • Jackie I used to have a Scottish boss and he said his dad did the scramble with coins too. He used to do it at weddings as well. All the local kids would gather round the bridal car for ages before hand to be sure of being in the scramble lol.

Hope those who have been fighting uphill battles, sadness and health !!!!wittage are having a less bumpy ride today. Sending hugs and positivity to all who want them.

Love and light to you (candles lit as always- lovely green fir for the season and to be peaceful among the trees). For anyone in a dark place - you know I'm going to say keep going - yes, it is absolutely rubbish - but you really can do it . Keep your chins up, be kind to yourselves and take care all xx

Jackie I am so pleased your DD has found someone to fill the dog-shaped hole in her life; Westies are such wonderful little characters, I've looked after half a dozen of them during my time as a dog-sitter, and every single one has been a larger-than-life personality, even 16-year-old Corrie! And one of my long-term regulars, who has made the swap to the new dog care company with me, is called Ted! :D

I've overdone it again I think; feeling quite rough again, so I'm clearly not over this flare yet, so dins will be something easy tonight - I've swapped a couple of things round on the meal plan, and we'll have tagliatelle with tinned toms and veggie hot dogs. The Stilton and parsnip soup Mr LW has been mithering on about is now listed for tomorrow, hopefully I'll feel up to making it by then. :o

Our NYE will be the same as usual - play video games on the pc til about 11:55, then put the tv on to catch midnight and crack open the champagne (@ldi's finest), then back to the video games while we finish off the bottle. I'm afraid I cannot abide Jools Holland's programme - it's too much like sitting on the outside watching everyone else enjoy themselves, iyswim.

Sasha's due to go home tomorrow, but I don't know what time - I said to her Mum just to text me before she comes for her, we're going nowhere, so it's fine if she's later than she's planned; and she's got enough food that I can give her dinner if necessary. :o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Just catching up on here now the eldest and youngest DGDs have been collected. We spent the afternoon playing Monopoly and making serious inroads into a big box of Werthers toffee selection. I am seriously addicted to the caramel ones!

JACKIE your post about NYE's traditions got me thinking back to my childhood. My friends and I used to go mumming. We visited all the neighbours houses in fancy dress and offered to sweep the old year out of their hearths to make way for the new. In exchange we were given a few coppers or sweeties. This must have been peculiar to this particular area because none of my friends, or even Mr TA, say they ever did this! (We are an odd bunch of folk round here!)

It's fish for tea for us with some salad and baby potatoes. We are sick of eating meat for now! Mr TA just having a nap (he gets tired so easily with his illness) and then I will make a start on it. Afters will be from the Xmas goodie mountain!

Have a nice evening if you can and take care xx

My late Dad came from Brechin in Angus and he was quite particular about keeping the tradition that he had from his Mother (my Granny)

My Mum was from Glasgow and only my middle brother Davey and I were the only ones in the whole of both families born south of the border ,both of us eastenders :):):)much to my late Dad's disgust. The war put a stop to my Mum travelling up to Scotland for the births of us both :)

Got home for this afternoon and my neighbour knocked just after I got in and said did I want some cheese .She had been given a large round of blue stilton and she doesn't like blue cheese, I accepted it with a big smile and bless her she was so pleased as she said it would have been criminal to waste it.So I have portioned it up and its in my freezer.
Weighed one kilo :) so I shall be looking for lots of blue stilton based recipes. :):):) No shopping to buy as I cam home from Dds with lots of left over bits and I shall be away again tomorrow until possibly Monday evening.
