Got to take eldest springer to the vetty-person today for bloods. She has some sort of unusual liver problem which is being investigated by the University of Cambridge and they need regular tests to monitor the disease.
Hope the fog lifts a bit. DS and his girlfriend are stuck in Amsterdam after their flight home was cancelled yesterday. Fingers crossed they can fly today.

Good morning everyone,
It feels like it's only just got light. I had to check I wasn't up an hour to early a few times this morning.
Loaded with the cold so didn't do much last night and I plan on doing exactly that again tonight once I'm home from work.
Caterina - hope you feel better soon
Jackie - huge congrats0 -
Hi chums going to pop back to my house for today and tonight Got to get my house clean for the coming New Year ,but will be with DDs tomorrow night for the bells.
I remember as a little girl living in London our house was the only one still lit up at midnight, my parents were Scots, and to me, New Year was always a bit of a magical thing. My Mum would put us all to bed early around 6 and we would be woken at 11 and get up in our PJs and dressing gowns and wait for the magical stroke of midnight.
My middle brother Davey would be sent into the garden with a piece of coal and some shortbread and he would be the first person over the threshold after midnight as he had very dark hair and it was luckyHe would bring the New Year in through the door with heat (coal ) and meat (shortbread) so we would not be cold or hungry during the coming year.
My Dad would have a handful of small change, pennies and threepenny bits and several sixpences and he would throw them in the air, and us children would scramble for them.He always said its the only time a Scotsman would throw his money away:):)
All the lights in the house were on and all the windows opened and the front and back door to let the Old Year out and the New Year in. we eventually got to bed around 1.30 and I still get a tingle at 12 when I open the door to let the New Year ineven over 70 years later. We could hear the tugs on the Thames hooting to each other and it seemed that they were wishing us all a Happy New Year as there was never another light on in our road at all ,we were the only family who kept New Year.
Now its all Jools Holland, and TV and fireworks etc but it seems the magic bit has been lost somehow with the advent of commercialism.
How do you celebrate if at all the coming New Year, first time we did this at my ma-in-laws place on the Isle of Wight I think she thought I was somehow a pagan:):)

PS Happy New Year to you all xx0 -
Morning All
Thinking if Coxy and Lainey today ((((((Hugs))))), Caterina wishing you and DH a safe journey home
Jackie lovely to hear about the new addition and about your history of New Years.
Spent yesterday with DD and DGC for her birthday, I think she liked her gifts and we had a nice afternoon with them and her dad.
Her dad is coming to stay with me and DH for New Year we are all good friends and we are going to a golf cub evening of fun not far from Jackie. DMIL is spending the night with her middle sons family and the whole in law clan are coming to me for New years day. She will also spend New years night with BIL. I don't think she is too happy about it but c'est la vie.
DH still in bed he is on night shift tonight MIL also still asleep, will get her up shortly.
It was very foggy driving back from London last night and still patchy fog this morning, think will wait till later to venture out.
I have decided I have have spent too much time feeling sorry for myself and need to get organised so that is on the menu for today with a fridge, freezer and cupboard audit.
Wishing all a good day

Morning all
Hugs to those in need especially Coxy and family.
Foggy & frosty here, the washing is hung on the radiators.
My only plan today is to strip my vacuum cleaner down to get all the hair off the rollers, a regular job.
We have 5yo DGD this afternoon until tomorrow, so lots of colouring, cutting and sticking will take place.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Lainey, Coxy and any one else who needs one.
Another abortive day, went to the library, closed to next Tuesday, went to Stathern to see if the butchers was open, no so came home having wasted both time and fuel.........The library is open on tuesday, but OH has a hospital visit. The library van is coming Tuesday, we will not be here, I will have to go into melton on Sunday and put the books through the door, or renew them till the next time he comes.........How come Christmas now runs into the new year and everyone takes 2 weeks off work??? OH and I had 2 days at Christmas and 2 days for the New Year (in Scotland) The rest of the time the office was open so we were working.
It is quite misty here and foggy out in the open countryside.
I have laundry on the line, but I doubt its drying, will bring it in and put it through the dryer. I have more to do tonight. I would usually change the bed as well, but just cannot face washing and ironing sheets and a duvet cover etc tomorrow. It will have to wait for Monday.
Sausage out for tonight. OH requested gammon for supper on Sunday so thats out defrosting too, will soak it tomorrow and cook it, then slice it on Sunday when its cold., it slices better then. Will have it with veggies and mustard sauce.0 -
Morning all,
Had a bit of a disturbed night as our door bell kept going off multiple times during the night, we unplugged it in the end, I think next doors was going off too, OH thinks its some kind of remote control toy someone is playing with is setting it off ! It was quite annoying ! Little Evie was great though as she barked the place down !
Going to take the big tree down today Im a bit fed up with it now the little one can wait till Sunday or Monday its in a pot anyway so I hope it will do for a few years yet .
Not sure about dinner tonight but there is loads in and we wont starve.
Thinking of you today Coxy xx
Lainey hope your mum can be pain free now xx
Caterina hope you are well enough to travel x
Jackie o I hope Ted gets well soon xx
Have good days all xx0 -
JackieO my OH brings the New Year in for us. He used to have black hair and although it is white now, I imagine that counts still. He brings a saucer with a piece of coal or something to represent warmth, a silver coin and a piece of bread.
I like the house clean for the new year but tidiness eludes my grasp. It will be clean underneath.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hi
Just put washing out...should dry as its very windy here.
Went into town for some bits this morning and a visit to Costa with eldest DD. She needed some things to take back to Holland with her...she says things like shampoo and conditioner are really expensive there. She goes back on Monday, but I probably won't see her much over the weekend as shes going to Edinburgh with friends for New Years Eve.
Had an embarrassing moment this morning....I fell down crossing the road! How...I don't know, but I jumped up quick! Went down heavily on one knee and my jeans and coat were all muddy. When I got back home my knee was cut and bleeding!
Got some dishes to do and then I'm off down the hill to visit my dad and try to find some paperwork in boxes in garage belonging to DD. Her possessions are spread between Amsterdam, our house and my mam and dad's garage!
Jackie O....when the girls were younger and we lived in a house with a coal fire, I used to always leave a piece of coal on the front door step for my dad to bring in on the morning of New Year's Day. He used to always be the first foot when we were all at home too.
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Jackie - Thank you for sharing that lovely story. I do love your occasional tales. I have never heard of the tradition of bringing in heat and meat, very interesting.
DP - Oh dear, I hope you're knee isn't too bad and you're ok.
csarina - I share your frustrations. I've been in work with only a couple of days off either side of Xmas and New Year.0
