Airfield Restrictions

I as flying for LBA to Mexico and the LBA to LHR leg was cancelled 12 hours before I was due to fly. I was rescheduled but arrived 24 hours late.
BA are refusing to give compensation stating that "....was cancelled because of airfield restrictions being in place that were outside of our control, which prevented the aircraft operating as scheduled. I’m afraid this meant we had no option but to cancel your flight....'
What do they mean by this and how can you check what restrictions are in place?
(This is my third time of trying with BA - last one was a blanket blocking a toilet on board causing a four hour delay and not their liability!)

Flight number, day and time might help....0

You mention another delay because of a blanket blocking a toilet. Give details of all the flights with BA that have been delayed and we will look to see if any compensation is due. Dates flight details etc and reasons they gave you for no claim.0

According to EUClaims' free checker
Our data shows that the airline can claim 'exceptional circumstances' e.g. there was a strike or bad weather conditions. This means they can't be held responsible and can't be forced to pay compensation.
While it is possible to claim compensation it's unlikely you'll be successful. We recommend not pursuing this case.
This was however the only cancelled flight of the day and the other flights round about the time went on time so it may be worth checkin on the bottonline checker to see what this says0 -
I operated long haul from LHR on the 18th and it was there that the ATC restrictions were in place due to heavy fog.
Mandatory increased spacing between aircraft movements drastically reduced capacity resulting in numerous domestic and short haul cancellations0
