BT Struggles: Getting Money Back?

Hello

I started a 24-months contract in May this year.
BT will finally bring an Engineer over to install the landline and broadband, but I've been paying monthly rates all this time. I'm so disappointed that I just want to cancel the contract. However there is a cancellation fee of over 300 pounds.

Please inform me of my rights as I do not feel that this is fair.

You shouldn't pay anything until you have a service. If they are charging and you have no service ask for a refund. If you have the line but couldn't get the BB working then you'll have to pay unless it was actually faulty rather than you not having the ability to plug a router and phone in.

It looks like OP has been waiting for OR to actually install a line which seems to be a common problem.

Anyway, your rights are to have anything you have paid up until you have a working service refunded. You had a right to cancel the service within 14 days of ordering but I would argue that as they have failed to commence the service within a reasonable time you should be able to cancel without penalty (although the problem is out of BT's control, they don't install lines) ........ but you would not get a phone line any quicker, you would be back to square one with an alternative provider trying to get Openreach to install a new line if BT cancel the order.
