Where I live the only way to get any TV channels is via SKY or Virgin - there is no communal aerials at all and no way to install any - and I live in London.
Mobile - it is a necessity not a luxury nowadays.
Personally I did not get any Christmas presents at all so would have nothing to sell - OP may be the same.
Read properly - cat was insured and the dreaded Animal Friends refused to pay.
Thanks awfully, GR, but I read it. I also read that the OP has paid NOTHING for 19 months. I also read that the OP claims to be only able to afford £5 per month. That is absolutely derisory.
OP, you made an absolutely clear inference that being on benefits means you cannot, have not and will not offer more than £5 per month. That's ridiculous. You should be making more of an effort.
It sucks that Animal Friends refused your claim. It sucks even harder for the vet that treated your animal in good faith. Fact is, it is your debt and you need to get serious about paying it. Go to the Debt Free Wannabe board and post an honest SOA. Or contact a debt management company, like StepChange, as has already been suggested. You've left this for long enough. Time to start making some payments.0 -
OP did you make a formal complaint about the claim being refused at the time?First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

Exactly!
Early on in this thread I asked whether the OP had complained about the insurance's refusal to pay, if necessary to the FOS. I note there has been no reply to that. It would at least have confirmed whether the insurance company had valid grounds to refuse the claim. If she had done this they I would have had rather more sympathy. Equally, did she try to get the vet's help in disputing the matter with the insurer? Sadly I suspect she did neither and just left the bill unpaid.
Legally the debt is the OP's responsibility and it is grossly unfair to take the attitude that the vet will have to make do with £5 a month. She clearly hasn't even been paying them that much until they took action meanwhile Sky TV (just for one example) remains a "necessity". If this goes to court the judge will assess what the OP can afford to pay and she will find out just how few necessities there are.0 -
I live perfectly happily without any TV channels and on a £15 a month mobile contract.
The OP clearly has internet access, if TV is that important to them they can watch things online. If it isn't that important they can save the sky fees and the TV licence fees. That should provide another £30+ a month to pay, plus the £5 a month, then whatever they were paying in insurance (lets assume super budget insurance at another £5 a month).
Paying £40 a month should be easy, stretch a bit more to £50 and the lot should be paid in under 19 months.0 -
Why don't you just stone to OP once you are all on your high moral horse?
After all, OP did not come here feeling !!!!!! already and waiting for all the abuse and being put down again and again.
And everyone else is just whiter than white on here.0 -
"or more a case of what you choose to spend money on"
How about food, toiletries etc
Or maybe i should go without these to fund my bills?0 -
I was paying animal friends £5 per month for supposed insurance, which i then cancelled when they declined to pay.
As for did i make a complaint...i spent an hour on the phone to animal friends...telling them that tiggers problem was not in fact pre existing but they still said it was...in my experience..insurance are always right even if they are wrong...be it animal insurance, car insurance, home insurance...you pay them money then when they are required to pay out they make some excuse!!0 -
All so presumptuous in my opinion
The fact is i was paying insurance for my pet, and that insurance refused to pay the bill leaving me in deep crap
All these responses are probably from people who are employed by insurance companies lol
One poster suggested i rehome Tigger...what the hell for!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just because a rubbish insurance company wriggled out of paying his vet fees...i penalise Tigger by giving him away
Utter rubbish...does that go for any insurance which is refused?
What if health insurance refuse to pay a bill...for say major heart surgery? Does this mean that said heart should be ripped out and given away because an insurance company cant be arsed to pay!
I did actually tell the vet reception when i picked tigger up that if for some unknown reason the insurance would not pay then i couldnt pay...she said not to worry as arrangements can be made, i told her i couldnt afford much again she replied not to worry..
Anyway dont waste your time responding any more cos i came here for advice NOT to be slammed and told to get rid pf my pet0 -
Thank you gettingready for your posts...as for everyone else....dont bother0

Did you go through their proper complaints procedure though - this generally is best done in writing, making it clear it is a formal complaint. Phoning is too easy to ignore.
You need to do that before you look at other options such as taking it to the Ombudsman. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
