You need to be in receipt of specific benefit to get PDSA treatment.

Ok, so while it won't help the OP in this particular instance, it could possibly be something to consider for the future so that he/she doesn't get into this mess again.

..... Your credit file will also be trashed now for the next 6 years so expect to be rejected for any credit you may apply for......

Surely it needs to go to court and be awarded a ccj which then needs to be unpaid after the payment deadline.

OP- which insurance company was that please?

Did the vet call them for preauthorisation before treatment?

I don't think so. Debt collectors can place a default on your credit file. You owe them money and have defaulted on that.

Only in respect of a debt that was subject to a credit check in the first place. It is unlikely this one would have been.

If you lend me £100 and I don't pay you back you cannot simply get that noted on my credit file. You would have to take me to court (and win) first.

That said, I do wonder in this case if the if there has been a county court action which we have not been told about?

Must be in receipt of one or more of

Housing Benefit (means-tested help with your rent)
Council Tax Support/Reduction Scheme (means-tested help with your Council Tax liability)
Universal Credit with a housing element
and live in an area covered by PDSA.

if the OP is eligible under these conditions then he needs to register now not wit until treatment is needed,

Yes, that's right. Register now in case the dog needs any other medical treatment in the future.
