I have listed two of my presents on eBay but the peaches in brandy syrup was gifted to the volunteer staff in my local Oxfam. The other problem is that the givers think you like their presents and choose the same next year......!0

Hmmm
Not necessarily "worst" but certainly unusual.

I would have loved those presents! :rotfl:0 -
I am loving this thread - it is soo funny.
I do not buy presents for anyone other than my son and daughter in law to be. They have to tell me what they want or they won't get anything. This year they said they wanted a microwave to go with their new kitchen and after waiting for the sales they managed to get a MW , toaster and kettle.
My family treat me like I am a bah humbug but I don't care!
(I am only talking about grown ups, Christmas presents for children is different)
One year after receiving the usual tat, the paper bin was overflowing with giant oversized boxes which most tat comes with - is anyone really fooled when you open the box and have to search for the miniscule item?

I applaud your thinking but easier to say than to do!
You might suggest to all likely friends that you really would like X for them to feel embarrassed because you weren`t on their present list! The other snag is that there are a lot of elderly people I see on a regular basis in my street ( the Yardley buyers!) and it would be hard to tell them however tactfully that you really prefer something else.0 -
My son regarded the huge Amazon box (comfortably a dozen times too big) with delight, as first he bit the corner off, ripped it a bit to extract the present then "opened" it before a bleary-eyed brother to reveal just the warring paper...
Happily he likes the watch. as well as winding up his family!0 -

I did!

Last year myself and siblings did secret santa for the first time to cut the cost and make it easier. I drew the short straw and was given a horrible scratchy blanket in vomit yellow. It went back to the shop directly after Christmas.
If you have unopened toiletries/make up etc that aren't your thing it might be worth finding out if your local Women's refuge accepts donations, and how to do it (of course by the nature of the business they can't have people just showing up), or popping them in a food bank box.
We all know the restorative power of a new bottle of something nice, and often in these circumstances they have had to leave everything behind.0 -
I had a 'friend' once who knew I hated a certain colour and never wore it or had it in the house but always bought my present in that colour saying 'I got you that colour for a change because you never wear/have that colour.' I could never work out if they genuinely thought they were broadening my horizons or were trying to get a negative reaction out of me. If the latter it backfired because they spent money for nothing because it at best never got worn or more usually ended up in a charity shop.0
