Dehumidifier

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a dehumidifier for under £70 which does its job.
Got a very cold wall which gets wet especially when you are cooking which then builds up in mould. It's mainly under the stairs so not a big room to cover. Seen some 500ml on Amazon then upto 2L ones. The energy consumption is quite low on these also which I'm happy to use it then.
Thanks

many electric compressor type dehumidifier stop working around 14C. Think they work the most efficiently in the lower 20?C. At 14C, not much water is removed by mine, compared to two containers in summer.
For low temperatures you want a desiccant dehumidifier.0 -
Thanks for the reply. Our kitchen drops to about 17.5 on cold days if heating not on so a normal dehumidifier no good then?0

Difference in price mind compared to standard humidifier. So basically a non desiccant humidifier is going to be pointless.0

This one dehumidifier states that it has a 24 hour capacity 26.7°C - 60%rh 13.6 litres in Laundry Mode, but at 30.0°C - 80%rh 26.4 litres in Laundry Mode http://www.meaco.com/meaco-25l-low-energy-dehumidryer.php
Here are some more stats from the same site http://www.meaco.com/Extraction_rates/meaco_25l_extraction_data.pdf
Think this will tell you a lot http://www.meaco.com/which_dehumidifier_is_best_outdoor.php
Have a look around here and the word 'tumble dryer' is mentioned a lot http://www.meaco.com/which_dehumidifier_is_best.php
Mine is not a meaco, and I am not an dehumidifier expert, nor am promoting the brand, but know that mine does not pull water out of air in winter efficiently, compared to the running cost. The idea was to extract humidity, make it cheaper to heat, and the dehumidifier would also heat up the room slightly, but my idea failed due to low temperatures.0 -
Thanks for this. The average temp in our kitchen is around 19 degrees but not sure if under the stairs will be the same0

A compressor dehumidifier will run just fine at around 19c.
Remember that desiccant dehumidifiers cost more money to run as they have a built-in heater.
This video does a better than me at explaining fully:

Thanks. Think I will try a standard dehumidifier and go from there. See if can buy a decent average size one for under £500

Is it wise to run a dehumidifier in a kitchen or bathroom? Won't you end up drying out the traps? Opening a window might be the best option if it's particularly bad.0
-
Traps? It's only for under the stairs in kitchen because it builds up a lot of condensation0

My advice is don't bother with a small mini dehumidifier. They are pretty worthless and will remove hardly anything.
If you can't afford the £100 for a decent dehumidifier then look for a second hand one. There is an electrical refurbishment shop in my town that sells them for around £50.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
