Kaspersky activation

Hi all.

I have kaspersky total security 2016 on the laptops in the house - licence for a up to three devices. I reinstalled windows 10 on one and when reinstalling kaspersky it tells me I have activated it too many tines. It's only on this laptop and one other (three device version).

The account page doesn't let you delete old devices and reuse the licence so at the moment I'm stuck with a copy of kaspersky I can't use on more than one machine.

I've opened a case with tech support but am waiting still for a useful non automated reply. Not sure how long that will take at this time of the year.

Anyone had the same problem and kaspersky resolve it? How long did it take?

Cheers.

  • Unfortunately usually your supposed to deactivate or save licence before reinstalling again however the support should rectify server side when they see updates running to 3 devices

I came to kaspersky from norton where you logged on to your account and removed old devices and it just didn't occur to me to deactivate prior to OS reinstall action. That'll teach me to read the instructions I guess!

  • Thanks. Do you know if the free trial of 2017 can be then activated with my 2016 key if/when this gets sorted?

I had the same problem after doing a fresh install of Win 10 onto an ssd. I contacted Kaspersky and they replied quite quickly.

I've copied their reponse below and hopefully it will help you. Note, I had downloaded the free version to keep me going which you will see in the following.

    Good luck!

My name is Giannis and I will handle your issue regarding the Kaspersky installation.

Let's try to install the correct version on your computer by uninstalling the trial version and then we will proceed and activate it with your current activation code (WHQTQ-XXXXX-G3M78-XXXXX).

    A) Uninstall Kaspersky application from control panel. (Right click on Start button --> Control Panel --> Uninstall a program). Please do not keep the license information during the uninstallation.

    B) Restart your computer.

    C) Download and install the latest Kaspersky application in your system as instructed below:

    1. Download the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2017 via direct link: https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/downloads/thank-you/internet-security (click on the link to initiate download);
    2. After downloading run the downloaded file (double click on it or select it and press ENTER);
    3. Follow the setup wizard by pressing Next and Accept when prompted;
    4. At the activation step type in your 20-character activation code, WHQTQ-XXXXX-G3M78-XXXXX
    5. Detailed description of the installation process is available here: http://support.kaspersky.com/12735

The application should be activated normally by following the above steps. In case you have any warning regarding the activation, please follow the below steps to remove the old key (if still kept by the system) and add your current one.

Please perform the following on all PCs your license is currently installed on:

    1. Open up Kaspersky (double click).
The user Interface Window should appear on your screen, click on the bottom right corner where the wording "License" or "Subscription" appears.

    2. You will be navigated to a new window titled "Licensing".

    3. Once the License Info windows is in front of you, 1st line of information is License Key. At the end of the License Key characters there should be a Cross (small "X" icon), click on it. You will be prompted to remove the key. Please confirm this action by clicking on the button titled: "Remove Key"

    4. Now you will have 2 new Green Buttons at the bottom of the Kaspersky Window, titled "Activate Application" and "Purchase Activation Code".
If you don't have the "Purchase Activation Code" key and you have the "Delete Activation Code" Please click on delete and confirm that action.

    5. Now locate the "Activate Application" key, please click on it.

    6. 4 boxes/fields will pop up. All you have to do is insert your 20-digit activation code and click on activate.

Your Kaspersky product is now activated successfully!

In order to connect a device to the Kaspersky portal, please check the steps below:

How to connect a device to the portal
    https://help.kaspersky.com/kpc/1.0/en-US/95241.htm

If you have any error message during the above steps, please provide us a screenshot and the GSI report below to check your system for inconsistencies and we will further help you.

    A) Please submit a screenshot of the error/notification.
The “How to take a screenshot” guide is available here: http://support.kaspersky.com/general/various/492

    B) Please submit GetSystemInfo utility report:

    1. Download the utility GetSystemInfo.exe from the following direct link: https://kas.pr/gsi (click on it to initiate download)
    2. Run the GetSystemInfo.exe and click Accept
    3. Click on the green Play symbol. The process can take up to 10 minutes and the progress bar may remain below 10% for most of the time.
    4. A *.zip file with a name similar to this will be saved on your desktop automatically:
    eg. GetSystemInfo_PC_Name_Username_Date_Time.zip
    5. Please send us that .zip archive, containing the report, as an attachment in a reply to this email.

Further support on how to use the GetSystemInfo utility can be found here: http://support.kaspersky.com/general/dumps/3632 (click on that link to bring a very detailed guide).

We remain at your disposal to assist you further.

After going through that process the question will popup... Do i need to switch the computer on?

    Or
After all those steps, how do i uninstall the program?

    Or
Again after they talk them through the whole process, whats the control panel?

Been there and done it for many years. I had to start asking them whats visible on the screen now.. Quite often they will have not clicked/opened what you told them to.

Had one with a computer with no sound... Went through checking its not muted and are drivers installed. Got them to send me a screenshot and there it was a BIG RED X on the speaker icon. Damn thing was just MUTED.

Many thanks for your reply and the info you attached. I assume kaspersky unlocked your activation code prior though and I'll need to wait for them to do the same.

    Cheers.

The Kaspersky response detailed by neil49 does not surprise me. I had similar problems when I first downloaded and installed a 5-licence, 1 year Total Security Kaspersky programme. I received almost the same response, within 3 hours of posting my problem. Kaspersky for me is the best of all such Internet Security programmes.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
