List of "junk" caller phone numbers for UK?

  • It seems to work well for me. We still sometimes get junk calls from the same idiots, but from different numbers - but the vast majority of people stick with the same number. My dad's a phone engineer, and he's still baffled as to how they can spoof the CLI with stuff like "0000000" ... and other junk like that! As you say, its obviously a flaw in the system but would be quite hard to fix up now.

It's obviously going to be better than nothing and from what you say you can't use a "white list" system which is the only reliable one (until they randomly use a number on my whitelist I suppose).

Gloomendoom - I think that's what we had a while back too. The problem with our setup, is that it goes via a phone system. So with the gadgets I mention, it just goes in BEFORE the phone system (otherwise the whole house would ring, even if its a junk one)

 Nothing rings straight through unless the numbers are in your directory or been added to your approved callers list. All other callers are told that calls are being screened by Call Guardian and they are asked for their name, the phone then pages you with the name and asks if you want to take, reject, or permanently add the caller to your reject list.

If they don't leave their name, and they never do, nothing rings.

    No lists or databases needed.
  • Yeah. I guess for now I will just have to build up my list from scratch. I may also spend some time going over the current ban list on the other device, and writing those down.
  • The land line is a business one.

Each to their own, but I'd be put off if I rang a business and got a TrueCall canned message.

I think they're great, put one on my elderly Mum's phone line, but I'd say more for domestic use.
  • It's not really that kind of business :) The main calls I would get, are from Amazon (I sell on there).

Also, you can probably tweak the settings so it only does the "please identify yourself" when it comes up as withheld/ international, and most of those are junk ones I don't want anyway.
  • I have had a Truecall system for 2 years. It's the best £99 I have ever spent.

The problem with giving people such as GPs, hospitals your mobile no, is that they will call with number witheld, so you have to answer the call to see if it is one of those organizations or junk callers. Using Truecall with your landline number, the surgery/hospital will announce who they are and you can then answer, knowing it is not a dodgy sales person.

I have an App called "should I answer" on my mobile which makes use of customer feedback on numbers to block and will advise you not to answer the call if on that list.
  • Indeed. I use Contacts+ on my Android phone, as it has a similar way of telling you who is calling. It's not perfect, as sometimes people report numbers from banks who are calling (for a genuine reason, like a dodgy transaction on your account)

£98? where is the MSE spirit? I got something similar off ebay for £25.

Worth having, my phone rarely rings now. Not even test calls to see if it rings, Nothing in the blocked call logs for over a month.

Usually when i say this a call appears :)

  • forgotmyname - the cheaper version is what I already have ;) This new one has a lot more features that I want (need), which is why I was happy to fork out a bit more for it. My old one is getting donated to my brother, so its not going to waste).
