List of "junk" caller phone numbers for UK?

Hi,

I have just invested in one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002GP7HQM/

They have a nice feature where you can upload a CSV (comma separated file) of numbers you want to block. I have found a couple of pay-for sites that offer a download of all the junk numbers they have, but I can't find any free ones. Is anyone aware of such resource?

We have this one currently:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Electronics-Photo/Cheeta-Powerful-Multifunction-Blocker-Display/B019W5F1K2/ , but it's not super easy to manage the existing list of numbers (you have to do it all via pressing keys on a phone). If anyone is interested in a cheap way to block cold callers, I can highly recommend it! We went from 50+ cold calls a day, to maybe one or 2 now

Any suggestions are much appreciated :)

Cheers

Andy

  • Dunno but the Mr Number app on my mobile and unplugging the landline phone works for me, it's been months since I had a spam call

We have one of those BT Call Guardian phones.

Works like a dream. Not a single spam call has got through since we plugged it in over a year ago.
  • martinthebandit - yeah, that's not really an option for us :) The land line is a business one. Quite a few businesses call on withheld, and I also get some calls from International (due to the type of business I run). On my mobile I have Contacts+ which tells you the number calling (so you can decide if you want to answer it or not).

Gloomendoom - I think that's what we had a while back too. The problem with our setup, is that it goes via a phone system. So with the gadgets I mention, it just goes in BEFORE the phone system (otherwise the whole house would ring, even if its a junk one)

Does your business phone provider not have any anti spam type service ??

Unfortunately, they all have disadvantages, mainly where it's a withheld number or call from overseas. I don't want people who have a genuine need to withhold their number (eg doctor etc) sat there giving a message.

As soon as I realise it's a junk call (usually before they've even spoken - if there's a pause of more than a second after you've said 'Hello', you know it's being put through by the autodialler to the agent), I just hang up. No debate, no discussion. Works fine, they never ring back.
  • Not as far as I'm aware (we are with BT). I guess if there is no list out there, I will just have to manually add them in myself, and get back up to the same level of protection.
  • Biggles - yup, we have the same idea here. Police, banks, doctors etc all call from withheld (probably to stop you calling them back for "personal" service, instead of going through the correct channels).

Yeah same. I then tend to do a quick google on the number, and if it comes up as a spammy one I just press "block" on the device to stop it ever coming through again. Unfortunately, just ignoring them doesn't work (we get the same number calling 10 times a day sometimes!)

It's more for confidentiality. As in, "Hey, Jane, looks like your doctor rang, I didn't know you'd been to the doctor....."

Yeah I guess so. Still annoying, as I would just block withheld numbers otherwise hehe

A lot of the junk calls appear to use a randomly generated number or one from a very large group. The thing that eventually prompted me to get a call guardian based phone was returning from a few weeks away with the same green deal message recorded umpteen times on my answerphone with the caller list showing many different numbers.

I give any organisation I know will call (doctor, service visit, etc.) my mobile number. I don't believe there is any reliable way to block known nuisance numbers because the callers seem to insert any caller Id they like - there were clearly some serious design flaws in the system but I guess it's too late to fix now.
