Morning everyone.
I've been up for ages but still under the duvet. The storm died down somewhat yesterday but is starting up again. Think it's changing into storm Conor.
Feels weird to be here alone. Since OH turned into ex-OH and I'm 'stuck' here I'm going to do what the hell I want!
Caterina - my DM told me about the garden gnome her dreadful SIL gave her back in the 1950s. Rather than bring it all the way from Germany on the train she threw it out of the window. She wouldn't even give it house room. I live by the William Morris adage which roughly says to only have things in your home which you love or are beautiful.
Thank you tru for nearly a month of wee packets of pleasure. The snippets of Christmas songs always brightens my mornings even though I'm a hardened non-believer.
I have presents to open and may well start with the gin bottle shaped one. :j My Christmas lunch is defrosting already and I've prepped the vegetables.
Happy Christmas to all my virtual friends here. I really hope you all have a fabulous time. For those who are ill or looking after poorly family members I hope you're fortified by love.0 -

Gers, William Morris AND Marie Kondo are going to be my guiding lights when I get back home, I have a plan in mind to do a massive clear out and refresh of my life.
Speky, thanks, I think I will take the mugs with me to avoid causing offence and then quietly dispose of them.
Interestingly, a couple of days ago I discovered in my mother's "good crockery" cupboard, a lovely Emma Bridgewater mug and tray commemorating The Queen's Jubilee, which I had bought for my sister, they weren't cheap either, from Libertys, yet she did not like them but rather than give offence she asked my mother to stash them away! My mother told me so, rather embarrassed. LOL.
I told my mother that I would happily take mug and tray back. But she wouldn't let me. I am in half a mind to tell my sister I would be happy to do a swap, her mugs back to her and my mug and tray back to me! Do you think it would cause trouble?
It reminds me of the beautiful article that our Martin wrote here on MSE a few years back, about the idea of not giving gifts at Christmas. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Merry Christmas everyone. I am enjoying a few quiet minutes alone, the turkey is in and everything else can wait. DH, DS and guests have gone out for a blustery walk up to Malham Tarn, at least the rain has stopped.
JackieO, sadly I couldn't find you on Facebook, I will try again.
Caterina, I hope your time away gets better. Gers, enjoy your solitude.0 -
Catering, I'd smile sweetly a say thank you and then throw them away. If your sister thinks the mugs are funny, she was trying.
Things here are less than peaceful, I'm cooking lunch, my beloved is screaming, swearing and generally throwing a strop as he cannot get his laptop to talk to his camera or his phone to talk to his kindle. If I make suggestions he will shout at me so I'll just let him get on with it.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Aww, Hester, this is where a glass or three of sherry become medicinal, if you can anaesthetise yourself from your DH's bad mood. Although I can sympathise with him, technology is so infuriating sometimes, look at his rage with compassion if you can. Only two more sleeps, then it's over. New Year's Eve is nowhere near as emotionally charged and can be safely ignored.
I had a chat with my lovely DS, he was not curled in a ball in bed as he told me yesterday, but was having beans on toast with a friend, which is lovely and made me feel so much better, knowing he was not alone and lonely. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I will have prosecco with my lunch, a bottleful rather than a glass!Chin up, Titus out.0
