This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning :santa2:
Merry Christmas everyone :xmastree:

Oh no LameWolf I'm glad the plumbing was sorted quickly x
JackieO I'm glad the wedding went well, it sounds lovely! x
Caterina That's awful. I don't know what else to say really. But I hope you and MrC enjoy your hotel stay, you've certainly earned it over the past few days! x
I have two family members who are not allowed in my house, and they know why because I'm not backward in coming forward. Someone in an occasional bad/sad/unsociable mood is one thing, that's just normal. But I won't let anyone deliberately drag everyone down, especially in my own house. They come across as friendly and cheery but they manage to make everything about them, make themselves look fabulous while running everyone else down and you don't realise what they're doing until they've gone home and left an atmosphere behind and you feel worn out. I get my lovely Christmases not because I have this amazing picture-perfect family but because I refuse to let the rubbish people in
Yesterday was fab! Little Mate was brilliantly entertaining, lol, he kept us amused with conversations about the nativity (he's been chatting about this since seeing a Nativity scene outside a church). He saw an angel with wings and told us it must be able to fly, then asked if it needed petrol too :rotfl:
I told him I really needed some help with something, would he like to carry a basket of crackers around and make sure everyone got one? He acted as if this was the most exciting that had ever happened to him and skipped about, yelling “Ooooohhh YES PLEASE!”
Scampi was a bit flustered so he had a short walk to calm down, he was great after that – apart from when he decided to hump my SIL's arm. I was mortified but she thought it was hilarious
We watched The Muppet Christmas Carol once everyone had gone home, then I fell asleep on the sofa til midnight. Dragged myself to bed then woke up at 4.30 this morning, realised the washing I'd done yesterday morning was still in the machine so washed it again on short wash and have just hung it up to dry. Can't believe I did housework on Christmas Day, that is so very wrongI've had to put the presents under the tree and fill the stockings this morning, I just couldn't manage it last night – too much wine and too tired! Feel great this morning, I'm waiting for everyone to get up but I doubt I'll see them for at least a couple of hours. The kids have never woken up early on Christmas morning, even when they were little they had a lie-in – that's not normal at all, I've definitely gone wrong with them somewhere :rotfl:

Morning all.
Merry Christmas to all xx xxx
Enjoying the calm before the storm so to speak. DGD DD1 and my best mate are due to arrive shortly. Just managed to drag DH from his pit and as soon as he is done in shower I will wake DD2. .
Got all the prep done last night so a fairly relaxing day for me.
Looks like santa has been working overtime here and still have more presents to come. Well it's the 1st xmas that DGD really understands so gone a bit mad lol .
Turkey crown is resting on the kitchen side warming up before it goes in oven and choc gateaux is defrosting on the drainer . Time for another cuppa before the madness begins.
Have a wonderful day all x
Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -

Morning folks and I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas Day. I have just caught up on yesterday's thread as I never got back on again after early morning. Much sadness amongst the joy. Christmas is not a happy family time for everybody.
Lovely day yesterday, meeting BIL & SIL as planned at lunchtime. DS came with us too. Then we all went to DD's for our evening of pizzas and games. I wasn't at my best with the sore throat getting worse as the day wore on and still coughing up a lot of gunge but I enjoyed it all the same. I was glad to get home to bed though. DS disappeared mid evening to pop in on the new lady in his life. (She lives halfway between us and DD which is convenient for him!) They seem to be seeing rather a lot of each other and she is making him much happier than the toxic ex did.
A quiet Christmas Day ahead with just DS here with us. DD is working this afternoon/evening and the DGD's are going to their dads for Christmas dinner once the mountain of presents have been opened! We are having a second Christmas Day tomorrow at DDs with another Christmas dinner!
I am doing a turkey crown and a piece of beef for us today, with the usual pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, honey glazed parsnips and other assorted veg, (Meat ready to pop in the oven but veg still to prep) Mr TA and DS are going to church this morning but I'm not joining them. I'll potter on here quite happily! We have a mountain of presents to open so, rather than rush opening them (if they ever get up!!), we are leaving them till after lunch to open at leisure.
Have a good and peaceful day if you can everybody. My thoughts are, as always, with the poorlies, worried, anxious and sad. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Good morning,
Happy Christmas!
Thank you tru for starting the thread, it made me smile, especially the tales about Little Mate, children are so lovely, they bring such happiness, and I laughed at Scampi's sexy antics!
Well, I got some sleep, even if I had to help DH change night clothes and move him around the bed to go on the non-sweaty side.
The light of day brings a serenity that's elusive at 3 am. He is changed, had some yogurt with honey for breakfast, a couple more of paracetamols and is now sleeping peacefully and his breathing is regular, thanks God.
I also had some breakfast and have put all the sweated out bedding and t shirts in the machine. It is a sunny day so I am sure they will dry well, in any case the radiators go on at 12 and this place becomes a FURNACE so there's no danger of anything remaining remotely damp. Luckily we keep the radiator in our room switched off and I often open the window, DH also enjoys the fresh air from under a warm duvet, much to my mother's rolling of eyes and gnashing of teeth about how freezing this room is. Nothing persuades her that it's the rest of the flat that's abnormally hot, yesterday it was 24 degrees with a window open in the living room.
Now I am enjoying my first cup of tea, glad that I brought a lot of fancy tea for my mother as a gift from London, Fortnum and Mason no less and she does not mind me drinking it. Life without a decent cuppa would have been much harder to contemplate.
Plan: do as little as I can, perhaps go for a little walk and pop into church for a bit of quiet prayer. There is a beautiful cathedral but I prefer the tiny church in front of my late father's old house, much more intimate and not crowded, full of peace. I spent a few minutes there yesterday and it gave me great comfort.
Lunch: artichoke risotto, totally un-Christmassy especially here in Sardinia, where the slaughter of the lambs and baby pigs and goats is a speciality much enjoyed by all the locals. I am so glad and grateful that in her old age my mother has almost given up meat and is perfectly ok with our vegetarian ways. She finds my cooking very bland though because I tend to steam or boil, and use very little salt. I am sure she will be ok to make the risotto and I will eat it doubly gratefully, one because I love risotto with artichokes, two because I am not cooking it!
We have already exchanged a few modest presents when I arrived so there will be no packets to open under the tree, thanks goodness As I am so overloaded with things, I need to Kondo to an inch of my life when I get back.
Mahoosive dilemma: my sister gave us a mug each of a Facebook comic sketch that she follows. I hate it, hate the humour of it and the message, but she thought they were hilarious and bought them for us thinking we would love them. What to do? Should I be honest and say? Should I lug them all the way to the UK and "accidentally" break them? Lose them? Stick them at the back of a cupboard and make them resurface if she visits?
Did any of you get hideous presents given with love and you don't know what to do with them?
First world problem, no doubt, but very real in this day and age of material overconsumption.
Have a peaceful Christmas Day, I am thinking of you all, those of you with families and those who are alone, those of you who follow different traditions and religions or none, best wishes to all of you, dear friends. xxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning all,
Im the only one up atm even the puppy is still in bed :rotfl:im too excited to sleepI love Christmas day !
I have got the rib of beef out of the fridge to get to room temp before it goes in the oven, the rolled turkey is in the sc and came on at 7 this morning, I shall transfer it to the oven in a while but I find it more tender if I start it in the sc.
All the veg is prepped and I just need to take the cheesecake out of its mould and display on a stand. My cousin is bringing the other deserts. there will be ten of us eating and 11 this evening, so its all a bit of a squeeze but hey ho it will be enjoyable.
Catarina I have distanced myself from my brother, he is very toxic and only out for himself, I will exchange texts with him today but that will be it, its sad when families fall out but sometimes for the best, have a great day x
Right I had better get the oven on, have great days all enjoy your loved ones xx
