MK4 Golf 1.6 oil capacity?

I'll be doing an oil change on this car.
I believe the oil capacity is 4.5ltr for a SOHC engine & 3.2ltr for a DOHC engine.
I just don't know what this one is.
It's a 2000 X-plate.
According to MyFreeCarCheck app on iPhone:
105bhp
4 Cylinders
2 Valves/Cylinder
The app is strange though. Sometimes it gives you plenty of info sometimes not so much.
Also do I understand that as being a 4x2 so 1.6 8v engine? If so then a bit naughty as it was advertised as a 1.6 16v when we bought it.
I also thought the 105bhp versions (77kw is it off the top of my head? 70 something) were 16v, not 8v?
I did some googling but just got results of keep putting in a bit at a time. Would be great if someone just knew.

The VW service sheet says fill with 3.2 litres and then check the level and top up as required.0

Oh well there'll be no oil changing happening any time soon. Looks like they've sent out the wrong size oil filter. The one fitted is a midget thing you can get a socket on the end. The one sent out is quite a long one with no socket option for the end.0

Thanks.
Can you comment on the 8v -vs- 16v thing?
I actually asked VW this themselves while enquiringly about the price of a MAP sensor but they decided to only give the price of the sensor with no answer to the 8v/16v thing.
Like I said it was sold as 16v (means nothing) but I'm sure I've read the 105bhp is 16v, although those 4 & 2 numbers in MFCC make me wonder if it's 8v.0 -

It sort of doesn't matter as the oil is ually old in 1litre and 4 litre quantity nowadays so either way you will have to get 4 or 5 litres (the extra litre to top up between oil changes.) , just make sure you get the correct spec oil though, Castol GTX is soooo 1980s0 -

I don't mean from an oil change POV I just meant more for curiosity.
I get my oil from OpieOils.0 -
Often 16 valve engines proudly state "16V" on the valve cover. I assume that your's doesn't or you wouldn't be asking. That might suggest that it's an 8 valve. Really, though, as already suggested it's simplest to get 5 l. of oil so you're covered and have some left over for any topping up or for the next change.0

4x2 may suggest 2 valves per cylinder but may point to 2 inlet and 2 exhaust valves per cylinder0

True, I had a MK4 Golf which was 20 valve and it had it on the cover.0 -
The cover actually looks like it's had something removed from it.
And i already have the (5ltrs) of oil.0 -

If you already have the oil then the process of filling it will tell you the type of engine you have. Just fill to say 2 litres then keep adding half a litre checking the dipstick to see if it is near the upper fill mark.0
