I can probably at least equal you on the housework front - ie hating thereof:rotfl:
My kitchen planner has been told that I like cooking and regard it as a hobby - but I absolutely loathe and detest housework and anything remotely resembling "maintenance" work on the house. "Time and motion" features very heavily as regards how I get my home together. Unfortunately - that has the side-effect I can't do "homely" on a house to save my life - but I know my limitations and it has to be (very) easy to run.
It's a valid point re the angle of blinds (if that's the solution I decide to take). I do go out for "inspection patrols" outside my home regarding just how much is visible/audible outside if on "communal territory" on the one hand or intruding into my garden on the other hand. So I'll check that point out...0 -
Another housework hater here
We installed window film - not the mirrored stuff, but the type that resembles frosted glass - in the kitchen of our last house. The rear and side windows (in the extension we added to the kitchen) were not overlooked at all, but the front window fronted straight onto the village street. Admittedly we didn't get many passers by - there were only a handful of houses beyond ours as we were at the edge of the village - but there were a couple of parking spaces outside our other front windows (we had three on the ground floor) and two of our neighbours used these so could see in if they chose to look as they walked into the village to their own homes.
I applied the frosted film to the lower half of the sash window only as this was the eating end of the kitchen so we were mainly seated when using that end. The 'business end' of the kitchen was so far from the front window no-one could see what we were doing anyway
It is a bit of a mare to fit without it bubbling, but once you get the hang of it, it's fairly straightforward! I hate Venetian blinds personally, although plantation shutters can look nice in the right setting......wouldn't want them in a kitchen though!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Just checked out a couple of "how to" clips on YouTube re applying frosted film.
That's a "no" then - as it looks as if one couldn't see out.
My solution needs to be one where they can't see in - but I can still see out.
Still looking like it's going to have to be blinds then...0 -

Mmmm, if you want to cover the whole window (and still see out), then I agree it's not for you. In our situation - victorian sash window - we were still able to see out of the top sections that I didn't apply the film to. Across the road was a public footpath leading through a steeply sloping field that usually had cows in. Our house was accessed by the original Georgian steps so was higher than the pavement level. As long as we could see the cows we were happy
In your position, Money, I think I'd opt for the mirrored film that Bouicca used.....Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

I personally would put some containers with bamboo or something in them. Make a bird attracting feature out of them.0

we have used these people several times, the price and the quality seem reasonable
Our daughter has their "Perfect Fit Venetians" on several windows, wehave their regular Wooden venetians, the Concept Sunwood Classic in pine, it is possibly slightly lighter in colour than shown on screen. You can request samples.0 -
What about day and night blinds?
I have seen them in shops when I was looking for a blind (bedroom). I would consider them if my kitchen was in minimalist Scandinavian style.0 -
