Still unable to get accepted for the Halifax Clarity card?

Do you actually need credit? Using Monzo and/or Revolut would save you just as much money, without the credit searches and rejection.
It doesn't have to be a credit card, although I just want to use something reputable. I've been looking at Metro Bank for some time now though which may be better, it's just the travel down to London or somewhere to apply that I haven't got round to just yet

Oh I'd simply die of embarrassment!
Halifax give out cards like smarties, if you're not an undesirable that is.
The shame.0 -
I got a Halifax clarity card without a problem and I'm retired!0

I think Aqua card has no fees for non sterling use. It's the Aqua Reward card that gives the straight MasterCard rates for foreign purchases, but there's a 3% charge for cash withdrawals. Overseas purchases are included in the 0.5% cashback.
Yeah the Aqua Advance card does offer that, though having their card as a spare came in handy when I was abroad and Lloyds messed up, their systems rarely let me pay my bills. They were never late but I used to pay my bill at the end of each week and they only ever allowed so many payments within a certain amount of time0 -
Consider Santander Zero. As with Clarity, no loading and no fee for ATM withdrawals.0

My original idea to get a card to use abroad was when at the beginning of this year, my grandad got the clarity card, and he's 71 and retired too. He got it through the post this particular day and told me he paid for a hotel upgrade once on his M&S credit card and got charged loads in foreign transaction fees, and was telling me that the clarity card was free to use abroad.
He knew I was travelling over the Summer and went through the application with me but they rejected me back then0 -
Retired peeps have used credit for many years
and if used correctly, will go on for many years.
