Argos suspicious pricing

  • I run a limited company and we sell online as well as in our two stores. When things go out of stock, it's disappointing for us and the customer but some items are on a 'perpetual re-order status' and come in from the supplier weekly. At least once a year (sometimes more often for items we import) the prices change. We therefore have to change the prices we sell at, we try not to but it's inevitable with some increases.

On 21.12.2016 I searched every argos store in the UK for a Go pro hero 4 silver 309/4408 at the price of £229.99. Unfortunately no store had stock.

This changed at 1am on the 22.12.2016 when every store had stock of said model at the new price of £249.99.:(

Which most probably means they will be on "Sale" on Boxing day for £219.99.

    I was wrong, it's currently showing as £249.99 SAVE £30 was £279.99.

That's a bargain in their sale I think I'll give the big swerve

But Argos are honest enough to state:-
*Prices correct as displayed but are subject to change.
Please note item 3094408 has previously been on sale at £229.99

The info. is all there to allow you to make a judgement on whether to buy at the advertised price.
  • So you complained that they were out-of-stock on the 21st but somehow managed to become re-stocked overnight?

You've never seen the articulated lorries delivering stock to Argos shops after closing time? The company have night workers busily filling shelves every night over the Xmas period. Obviously, by 1am on 22nd the stores had replenished.

Unfortunately (for you) this coincided with a price increase.

You seem to be impressively gullible.

Want to buy a limited edition £7 note I've got? It's got the serial number AAAAA0001 and is printed on the wrong type of paper so it's your for just £500.

You quoted me, but are you sure you were replying to me?

I didn't complain to Argos about an overnight price change coinciding with replenishment of stock...

I don't see how (short of Argos taking stock "off sale") the stock file accessible by the public would show out-of-stock unless it actually was..

It can easily work other way too. Bought a bluetooth speaker (another one different brand) Amazon had it for £130 now £150 Argos at same time has it for £150 left it a day about 2 weeks before xmas and was down to £100 and I got 10% staff discount Sainsbury's. Amazon equally chop and change there prices as well there fully entitled to do it. I tend to not impulse buy for that very reason
